Today we’d like to introduce you to Cris Brown.
Hi Cris, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’m a South Bay native (Gardena, CA). I’ve been cooking professionally for 15 years. I’ve worked for Chefs such as Gordon Ramsay, Bobby Flay, Josiah Citrin, and Jose Andres. I was born into cooking; my family is from the south, and also my dad’s side of the family is Japanese, so I got to experience food from both parts of the world. I’ve won multiple awards, from Best Restaurant to Michelin Bib Awards, and being named one of the top 100 restaurants in LA. I run a popular podcast that is for the world of restaurants and Chefs; we are the #1 restaurant podcast on YouTube.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
To get here was very difficult. I sacrificed my entire youth to get here. I wasn’t able to go out to parties, nightclubs or travel. My job was very demanding, working 60 hours a week, sometimes with no days off all week. I missed friends’ birthdays, weddings, and even funerals. I tell people all the time that the culinary industry isn’t for the weak, and it’s definitely not for everyone. I don’t regret any of it only because of where it got me today.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a creative genius. I’m a 3-time Food Network winner. I’ve competed on over 7 episodes and have been in the final rounds in every show. I’ve even defeated an iron chef (cannot name yet)
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Growing up, I was the funny kid on the block. I was goofy and silly, and that’s why what I do is so opposite because I’m very serious in the kitchen. I’m also a gamer, I’ve played video games since the original Nintendo and still play till this day!
