Today we’d like to introduce you to Cosmo The Truth.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Hi, my name is Christopher Wilson but most know me as Cosmo The Truth. My creative journey began in high school at Deerfield Beach High in Broward County, Florida, known for its Broadcast & Communication Magnet and athletics program. Initially passionate about football, I eventually developed a love for the arts and music. By my senior year, I graduated as a self-taught graphic designer.
I spent two years at Alabama State University, where my musical journey took off. As a college freshman, I immersed myself in writing raps about my daily life. A sophomore-year leg injury led me back home, where I completed my degree at the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale. Attending an art school provided a unique perspective on shaping my life.
Post-college, securing a job proved challenging, but I persevered, enduring long daily bus rides. These rides fueled my passion for music, leading me to self-teach music composition. Establishing Loud Batch Entertainment, I adopted the artist name Cosmo The Truth and, after learning production, released my first self-titled EP in 2019.
Becoming an artist was my goal, and I achieved it. After connecting with local creatives, I decided to broaden my horizons, relocating to Los Angeles. Currently, I’m in LA, passionately promoting my music and my clothing brand, Doobee Adore, which I’m thrilled to see people wearing.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Becoming an artist has its inherent challenges, yet that adrenaline rush is what fuels us. It’s akin to a natural high—the uncertainty of whether the ideas or products we create as independent artists will be the breakthrough. While recognition is a shared goal, financial gains are crucial in an industry dominated by business-savvy professionals. Personally, my significant challenge lies in the lack of financial resources to bring numerous ideas to fruition. In a business-driven realm, I often grapple with prioritizing the business side over the creative process. However, with years of experience, I’m learning to strike a balance and cultivate a love for both aspects.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’d describe myself as a one-stop creative shop, consistently securing jobs that leverage my artistic abilities. These diverse roles over the years played a pivotal role in shaping my talents.
Among recent accomplishments, I had the pleasure of creating music for SoundCloud’s YouTube series, “The Bridge,” showcasing my producing skills. Another career highlight was having my first record synced on VH1’s “Cartel Crew” and working with Issa Rae’s Raedio label. Since relocating to Los Angeles, I’ve had the opportunity to reach a broader audience, eagerly anticipating connections with more companies and talented individuals.
What sets my approach apart is my ability to generate ideas on the spot. Years of experience with creative agencies have honed my capacity to connect ideas with imagery, enhancing my artistic and musical creations. This unique process has earned me the moniker of the “Hip-Hop Jack of all trades” in certain circles, making me a one-stop shop for various artistic needs.
Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
Embracing the path of a creative isn’t easy, but it’s the journey that brings excitement. Anticipate numerous highs and lows along the way. Always trust in your abilities and walk into any room as a beacon of light. I refer to this as living in perpetual motion, staying steadfast on your path despite obstacles. As a man of faith, I’ve faced addictions, poor choices, and consequences from those choices, yet never lost faith in myself. To anyone reading this, my advice is to never give up on yourself and prioritize putting God first in all endeavors, as the battle is not yours to fight alone.
