Today we’d like to introduce you to Connor Finnerty.
Hi Connor, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Well, it all started when I was 12 years old, living in Roseville, CA (my hometown) and at the time, I had been dancing for two years and I heard that this big-time dance agency called BLOC Talent Agency was having open call auditions for their kid’s department in Los Angeles. Keep in mind I had been dreaming of living in LA and pursuing a career in the entertainment business since I learned to walk practically. I remember my dad thinking it wasn’t worth it to audition because it’s too many talented kids in one room and they won’t notice me…turns out he was wrong. I got the email two weeks later that they wanted to sign me and pretty much a month later I booked my first dance job and already had a manager and acting agent. My parents eventually agreed it was in our best interest to move to LA and pursue my career down here.
Over the past eight years I’ve lived here I’ve grown as a dancer by taking so many amazing dance classes from some of the best choreographers in the world. Established a presence on social media with over 400,000 followers on Instagram and over 600,000 followers on TikTok. I’ve met friends that I will know for a lifetime and I have gotten to work with some amazing people that I’ve looked up to since I was little. Including Zac Efron, Hugh Jackman, Zendaya, Meghan Trainor, Dj Khalid, Derek Hough, Pharrell Williams, Nick Cannon, and so many others. Now fast forward I’m 20 years old and continuing to make my dreams come true. Just got off an 18-city (6 weeks) tour with my boy group “Pop Money” which is signed with Republic Records and founded by Nick Cannon. We also have a new song called “Another Dimension” that will be on the new soundtrack (and in the movie) for the new animated film “Spider-Man Across The Spider-Verse” with Metro Boomin and produced by Og Parker. My dreams of being a true triple-threat success is so far panning out the way I want it to. With my boy group, still growing as a professional dancer and booking jobs as an actor. The little boy version of me would be smiling with joy and so proud of the person I’m becoming.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Living in a city like Los Angeles and pursuing a career in the entertainment business is no cakewalk. With auditioning and coming close to so many big opportunities and then hearing that saying “We decided to go with someone else” is the most draining and hurtful experience ever. But if you want to stay around and survive all those no’s just to wait for that big yes then you have to grow a backbone. Thankfully I’ve been in this business since I was 12 so I learned how to shrug off all the rejection at an early age. Another tough obstacle is growing up in your teens with social media. I don’t talk about this much, but I remember when I was younger, I would always try to compare myself to people and it was never healthy for me mentally. Especially when you live in LA and there are so many talented people here. Eventually, I learned that I just have to follow my own path and focus on me. Everyone has is their own unique self and no one can take that away from anyone.
Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
My favorite childhood memory has to be when I was like eight and I would watch my favorite Disney shows that were airing at that moment in time and recreating scenes from them in my room. I did this all time because I genuinely wanted to be on that big screen so bad haha.
