Conversations with Camila Morena

Today we’d like to introduce you to Camila Morena

Hi Camila, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I started dancing at the age of four, and from the very beginning, it was clear that dance was my calling. Everyone who saw me move would say, “This is what you were born to do,” and I felt it too. When I turned 21, I took a leap of faith, leaving my parents’ home and my hometown to move to São Paulo, known as Brazil’s Entertainment Capital.

My time in São Paulo was transformative. I dedicated myself to intense training and treated those years as preparation for my ultimate dream— Los Angeles. After three years of hard work and saving, I finally made it to LA, planning to spend three months immersed in learning, growing, and collecting unforgettable experiences before returning home.

But life had bigger plans for me. During my time here, I was signed by an agency and secured a work visa—opportunities I once thought were out of reach. None of it would have been possible without the unwavering support of my family, friends, and my own determination to work hard and make the most of every opportunity. For all of this, I am deeply grateful, and I’m excited for what lies ahead.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The biggest challenge in pursuing a career as a dancer is the inherent instability that comes with it. The paychecks are unpredictable, rejection is a constant reality, and you have to train relentlessly to keep your body prepared for opportunities when they arise. Coming from my country, the financial strain adds another layer of difficulty. With the currency exchange at its worst point in history, every step forward feels like an uphill battle.

Despite these challenges, I consider myself incredibly fortunate to have a supportive family who goes above and beyond to help me achieve my dreams. Their unwavering belief in me gives me the strength to keep pushing forward, no matter how tough the journey gets.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
My work is deeply rooted in Brazilian culture, reflecting the vibrant music, dance, and art of my country. These influences shape every piece I create and every time I perform. As a choreographer, I take immense pride in the music videos I’ve had the privilege of crafting movement for. Each project feels like an opportunity to share a piece of my heritage while telling a unique story.

Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
One of my favorite childhood memories is traveling with my best friends to gymnastics competitions. Those trips were an incredible mix of fun and passion, as I got to experience them while practicing a sport I truly loved. We would train hard and give our all during the competitions, but the real magic happened during our free time—water balloon fights, racing up staircases, and sneaking out of our rooms to share secrets and laugh until our stomachs hurt. Those moments hold a special place in my heart.
