Conversations with Bunga Vidanska

Today we’d like to introduce you to Bunga Vidanska.

Hi Bunga, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I grew up in the tropical rainforest area in West Papua, Indonesia, where many tropical flowers grow and thrive freely. As someone named after a ‘flower’ in the Indonesian language, flowers have always become my art inspiration. Truth to be told, flowers are my best muse. I can’t draw humans, things, or even nature, but flowers? It is my strength.

Before I found my way into flower art, I began my journey through the spiritual and healing arts. I became a certified Tarot Reader and Reiki Master early on, drawn to the invisible connections between energy, emotion, and healing. This spiritual path guided me through many personal transformations and ultimately shaped the way I view the world—intuitively, symbolically, and with reverence for life’s quiet wisdom.

Later, I pursued a Master’s degree in Public Diplomacy at the University of Southern California, where I was deeply involved in conversations around culture, identity, and storytelling. Being far from home made me realize how powerful art can be as a tool for soft diplomacy, and I wanted to create something that could speak across cultures without needing translation.

That’s when Bunga Karsa came to life—a brand born from my love of flowers, art, and healing. I started preserving real flowers into handmade accessories, wearable art, and keepsakes that carry emotion and intention. Each piece is infused with story and spirit—an invitation to connect with nature and one’s inner self. What began as a personal form of expression evolved into a bridge between creativity, culture, and wellness.

Today, my journey continues to expand. Alongside Bunga Karsa, I also lead Javanese Flower Meditation, a ritual-based wellness practice inspired by ancestral healing traditions. Through everything I do, I hope to offer beauty that’s not just seen, but deeply felt.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Not at all. The road has been full of twists, doubts, and quiet reinventions.

As an Indonesian woman living between cultures, I’ve often felt the pressure to “choose” between being academic or artistic, traditional or modern, serious or spiritual. Building a path that honors all parts of me hasn’t always been easy—especially when navigating family expectations and the social standards of what it means to be “successful” back home.

There were also the practical struggles: learning how to run a brand in a foreign country, battling imposter syndrome, trying to make art while making a living, and staying grounded in my purpose when things didn’t go as planned. But through it all, the flowers reminded me to trust the process. Growth isn’t always linear—it’s seasonal.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
People often call me the Flower Artist—not only because my name, “Bunga,” means “flower” in Indonesian, but because every part of my creative journey is rooted in blooms.

Through my brand, Bunga Karsa, I create floral-inspired art that weaves together nature, intention, and personal storytelling. I specialize in crafting accessories, wearable art, and keepsakes using real flowers—each piece is handmade, one-of-a-kind, and infused with symbolism. I also create floral paintings, upcycled hand-painted clothing, and embroidered jackets that celebrate the wild, gentle power of nature.

But more than just products, I offer experiences. I lead guided meditations using flowers as healing tools and work with energy through Tarot and Reiki. My work invites people to reconnect—with nature, with stillness, and with their own intuitive selves.

What I’m most proud of is when someone tells me my art made them feel somehing—empowered, embraced, seen, soothed, or inspired. What sets me apart is the way I blend art with spirit, heritage with healing. My work is not just decorative—it’s restorative, ancestral, and intentional. My name ‘Bunga’ isn’t just a name; It’s a path I walk, wholeheartedly.

What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I was full of curiosity and deeply attuned to the world around me. I felt everything intensely—beauty, pain, injustice—and that sensitivity made me want to care, to protect, to create change. I was an ambitious, driven kid—an overachiever, always chasing excellence, but also someone who believed in fairness and taking care of others. I guess you could say I had a bit of a “save the world” complex.

At the same time, I was always drawn to quiet spaces—writing, collecting flowers, observing nature, and people. Even though I’ve always been grounded and realistic, there was something in me that believed in beauty and the unseen. Looking back, it makes perfect sense that I’d grow into someone who blends diplomacy, spirituality, and creativity. Everything I do—whether through art, meditation, or advocacy—is rooted in the same longing: to create peace. Not just the absence of conflict, but a deeper, restorative harmony. Between people. Within ourselves. With the Earth.
