Today we’d like to introduce you to Brea Holmes. They and their team shared their story with us below:
Holmes is a St. Louis native who moved to California to pursue her career as a Costume Designer. She attended Woodbury University in Burbank, CA receiving her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Fashion Design with an emphasis in Costume Design in 2016.
Since graduating, Holmes has worked on numerous projects in Theatre, Film, and TV. In addition, she has been a Costume Designer for every medium from music videos to feature films. She has also had the pleasure for working for companies such as Marvel, Disney plus, Tidal, Universal Music Mexico, TNT, and Lionsgate.
Holmes is now officially a member of IATSE Local 892 Costume Designer’s Guild and Local 768
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I had its ups and downs, but I can’t see myself doing anything else. From projects that tested every part of my being to not knowing when my next job will come, it has been hard. However, even through those trials, I love what I do and it is my purpose.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a Costume Designer and Assistant Costume Designer.
I have worked in various mediums from TV and Film to Print and Live Theater.
My most known work would be Danna Paola’s “Mala Fama” Music Video, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever and a project coming up called, Project CC.
What I am most proud of is how far I have come and my resilience. I feel like whenever I want to throw in the towel, God gives me a reason not to. They definitely have made it known to me that this is my purpose (laughs).
Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
Don’t be afraid to reach out!
The reason why I was able to work on a huge project such as Wakanda Forever was through a cold email during Covid. Take advantage of every opportunity that you’re given because you don’t know where it’ll guide you to.
