Conversations with Bianca Turner

Today we’d like to introduce you to Bianca Turner.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I am a self-taught artist working from my home studio located in Los Angeles. My degree is in economics and I also took postgraduate studies in marine biology. Although I have no skills regarding visual arts, I’ve been painting for over 20 years. In the last six years being a full-time artist became my career and currently, I am an established tier 2 artist. My works hang in private and corporate locations throughout the world and also in a museum in South Korea. In addition to spending 8 to 10 hours a day in my studio, I have my own consultancy art company helping other artists to navigate through the world of art. As of next year, I will lecture at a Visual Arts Faculty in Romania, Europe and hopefully in other countries, as well. I created my own lecture book about art economics and I am very excited to teach the students who will become the future artists, everything about how to promote themselves in their artistic careers.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
For myself, as a self-taught artist, one of the challenges was to find my own style of art. I still alternate between styles because my imagination runs wild all the time and I would like to be able to approach art from all angles, using different mediums, trying everything and always experimenting with something new. Another challenge is to constantly avoid the vanity galleries and all the scammers that are using most of their time trying to trick the artists in the cyberspace. I feel that a lot of my colleagues deal with this issue and it is a tremendous waste of time for all of us. And personally, the continued challenge that I have, as an European artist with an accent, is to show my art in Los Angeles. Although I have been showcasing my work in various places in the US and in a lot of main art hubs all over the world, it seems that my city, that I love so dearly, is not ready to love me back. That might happen because the visual arts industry’s modus operandi is to promote based on the nepotism principle/connections and if you are not well connected within the “industry”, the doors are closed for some artists. Hopefully, one day, this situation will change in Los Angeles.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am proud by the fact that my art has a message, a militant message I would say. I am passionate about the fact that an artist can change the world and make it better by bringing awareness about the important societal issues that are happening on our planet. My concept about my work is that “I am the hope” through what I am depicting in my creations and I would like to send this message to everyone who lives in their own bubble: we, as individuals are the hope for the future generations. I don’t like to say “I hope”; I am dedicated to create art that can express the fact that “I am hope”. Therefore, currently I create a lot of paintings that can be sold at auctions all over the world so the proceeds can go to the Ukrainian refugees. In addition, every time when there is a major problem in the world, I focus on transforming the ignorant into knowledgeable. In my studio, today I started to work on Masha Amini’s portrait because everyone must become aware about what is going on in Iran where the human rights are violated daily and the gender discrimination is a hot topic. I know that it is my duty, as an artist and a good human being to leave an important legacy to the younger generations.

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I do not believe in luck. I am firmly convinced that we all have to make our own luck, work hard for it and be passionate about what we do. If we do what we like in life, we will not feel that there is no luck surrounding us. I am a true believer that happiness and harmony in life can be achieved only if we do (as a job) what we are passionate about.

Pricing:

  • Although I am a tier 2 internationally established artist, I am aware about the economic situation/inflation that is affecting the 99% of the population. Since 1% of the population in the world holds 46% on the world’s wealth, I know how much people struggle financially in life. Therefore, I can be flexible with my prices when the buyer falls in love with my work. I am extremely satisfied when I know that more than 250 of my paintings are bringing happiness to my art collectors and are situated in good homes all over the globe.
