Conversations with Bianca Foscht

Today we’d like to introduce you to Bianca Foscht

Hi Bianca, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My journey as an actor and filmmaker started in my early years as a competitive dancer back in Austria, where I’m from. I had the pleasure growing up with 4 siblings, learning what the words “sharing”, “collaboration” and “team effort” mean. Starting out acting in my neighbors short films and creating my own little films in my familie’s backyard and the farmer’s gardens, weaponed with my dad’s camera, I was ready to start this journey that I now call my deepest passion and career.
After graduating highschool in Austria, I studied performing arts in Germany for a year before I decided to move to Vancouver BC to work in film as an actress and filmmaker. Vancouver was a beautiful place to learn and grow and with the help of my twin sister and some incredible filmmakers we shot our first feature film called DAY OF A LION in Canada. After some more creative projects in Vancouver and workshops offers in California, I moved to LA to learn more about the film business and find my foot in the creative space in LaLa Land.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Every beginning is hard, and I knew when I fell in love with acting and the performing arts that it would be a long and grinding path. I think of my creative journey as a marathon much rather than a sprint. I believe I had that realization when I first moved out of my home town. The great thing about a marathon is that it takes time and stamina to get through it and that’s the beauty of the entertainment business. It takes a grand amount of stamina and a positive mindset to keep going. My admiration for other artists’ work (be it music, photography or fashion) is growing day by day and keeps me going in those moments where we find ourselves at the bottom of the rollercoaster.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
My work as an actress consists of a rainbow of tasks and I’m very grateful I get to work in a field that makes it possible for me to team up with a village of creative geniuses and masters of their craft. Working on set and watching a scene masterfully coming to life is just such a magical experience. It takes truly a village of magicians to bring written words from paper to screen. After starting to work in the film business I learned what true passion means. I believe an industry like the entertainment industry is a workplace that you have to truly love to survive it, haha.

I’m most proud of my journey that lead me from continent to continent, getting to work with incredible filmmakers and empowering mentors that have shown me that there’s always a light at the end of a tunnel. Getting to learn from people that love what they do is truly empowering, and I find myself lucky that my parents have always been a leading example with this.

What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
It’s hard to say where the film industry is going in the next couple of years. An industry like the entertainment industry seems to me like this untamable rebellious beast that is ever changing, – that’s probably why I love it so much. I see myself as a great adapter, moving into new places, adapting to new cities, people, cultures and languages has always been an exciting process for me and I find the film business is similar in this regard. Over the years cinema has gone through major shifts within the field of technology, creativity and international trends based on the economy and politics. All these changes, however hard and long-lasting they might have been, eventually came to an end and lead to great new results and innovation.
