Today we’d like to introduce you to Aubren Hickernell. They and their team shared their story with us below:
Starting her journey with music at the age of three, Aubren was classically trained in piano. At the age of thirteen, she took an interest in guitar but couldn’t afford a new instrument at the time, so she made a fair trade with a friend – her skateboard for a starter acoustic guitar. She taught herself by ear and through YouTube tutorials and developed enough skills to explore the world of songwriting. At sixteen, she started to gain interest in every aspect of song creation, including recording, producing, and mixing. With her limited equipment, Aubren started recording and producing her demos over the next year which ended up getting her the top VAPA scholarship at her chosen university, Cal Lutheran University. Since college, Aubren has focused her attention on the branding and development of upcoming, female artists. Here is her bio:

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
You will always run into obstacles along your journey, especially if it’s something you’re passionate about. Ironically, I’d say some of the biggest struggles were internal; fighting with your self-doubt, comparing to other people’s success, and constantly battling with the concept of believing you are not good enough. You will have the occasional reality check, especially in this type of industry, but it’s important to remind yourself that you’re on your own timeline. One of my artists once told me, “You’re never too late for what’s meant for you” and any time I run into challenges along my journey, it helps to remind myself of that.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a songwriter, producer, and artist! I specialize in music production and mixing, but I love to sing and create my music as well. I love working with up-and-coming artists who are new to the entire concept of music creation, and I’ll help guide them through every step of the process, from initial songwriting sessions to distribution and marketing. Artists who work with me get more than a produced and mixed track; I love to be as involved in the process as I can, and usually, newer artists prefer to have more direction. I work with them to creatively shape their songs lyrically, melodically, and instrumentally, and I’ll go in-depth with them on vocal production to bring their tracks to life. I prioritize having a safe creative space where artists are allowed to fully express their ideas and find their voice through the creation process.
What’s next?
I would love to continue developing my skills as an artist and producer and help my current artists achieve their short and long-term goals with their music. My ultimate dream is to be an accomplished “whole package” artist, songwriter, producer, and mixing engineer. Essentially like Charlie Puth, but a girl! Why not? Especially as a female in the music production/audio engineering world, I’d love to represent and be an inspiration to women in this industry, or those pursuing their dreams and passions in music.
