Today we’d like to introduce you to Astrid Gonzalez.
Hi Astrid, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Born and raised in Los Angeles
I’ve been captivated by the world of makeup artistry since childhood. My earliest memories involve playing with my mother’s makeup and spending afternoons in her beauty salon, where I witnessed the transformative power of beauty firsthand. This early exposure ignited my passion for makeup and inspired my career.
I began my professional journey at MAC Cosmetics, where I honed my skills and built my portfolio through work on short films and commercials. Networking during this time opened many doors and allowed me to connect with incredible talent in the industry. To deepen my expertise, I obtained my aesthetician license, which has equipped me with a thorough understanding of skincare and its importance in achieving flawless makeup application.
Throughout my career, I have experienced both highs and lows, but each moment has fueled my dedication to the art of makeup. My passion remains as vibrant as ever, inspiring me to continuously evolve and explore new avenues within the industry. Recently, I pursued a medical assisting course to expand my skill set, particularly in the Medspa skin sector.
Looking ahead, I envision working in a MedSpa setting alongside a plastic surgeons. My commitment to the artistry of makeup and the science of skincare fuels my journey, and I am excited about what the future holds.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The rise of social media and digital marketing has been demanding to stay on top of my A-game to showcase my work. I’m the behind the scenes type of artist … I cringe if I have to speak or video tape myself.
Managing Work-Life Balance: The demands of the job, including irregular hours and traveling for gigs, can make it difficult to maintain a healthy work-life balance at times. Wrapping up one gig and booking the next! Work has high’s and low’s and that can be scary.
The beauty industry is constantly evolving which is why I continuously educate myself about new techniques, products, and trends to remain relevant.
What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
Physical demands of the j ob can be physically taxing, leading to fatigue and strain on the body, particularly for hands and back which is why I’ve learned to be gentle on my body, treating myself to weekly body massages and better self care.
