Conversations with Ashley Crawford

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Crawford.

Hi Ashley, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Good Food has always been something that I had an interest in, but it didn’t grow into a passion until later. After being laid off from my position (which I loved so much) last year 2020, I began to really focus on things that I loved doing, and that brought me happiness. Bike riding, DJing, and experimenting with different recipes became daily uplifters during the Pandemic. I also worked as a professional wardrobe stylist for the Top Modeling agencies in the world. It’s fun being able to incorporate my love for fashion and style into my marketing. I even came up with the phrase “Delivering Food & Fashion”. I started my plant-based journey over 14 years ago and never looked back! This was even how the name of my business came about! Vēginning “Vegan Since the Beginning”. As in before, it was trendy or popular I was already invested in this lifestyle. But it doesn’t come from an arrogant place, it’s just a clever play on words 😊. I wanted to create food that didn’t have to come with a title like Vegan, dairy-free, etc. I just make Good Food that happens to be those things. And loved by vegans and nonvegans the same!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The creative part was easiest for me! The initial startup was probably the most difficult but I was fortunate to have some help with the process.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I created a menu composed of Modern Quirky Vegan Eats (with soulful elements). Simply put it’s my personality transformed into food! I truly think that’s what sets me apart. I add a very unique element that will always have my signature on it! From the taste, the aesthetic, the marketing, the details will always have my stamp on it. I’m most proud of the fact that I created something solely from an idea, and I have customers travel near and far just to try Vēginning. I’m also proud of the customer relationships I’ve made and being able to establish repeat business some even daily.

Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
Never be too prideful to reach out or ask for help. I love to get outside feedback, opinions, and overall help from others. No one person can do everything by themselves. I also think it’s important to connect with similar businesses, food is a community. Also a lot of time, I find I have similar stories with other small business owners.
