Conversations with Anthony Palmini

Today we’d like to introduce you to Anthony Palmini.

Hi Anthony, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I had an early interest in being an actor since age 8. Little did I know I was actually interested in storytelling in general. I would write my own stories and create my own films with my toys as me playing every character. As I got older I would perform in school plays and when I went to choir practice my mind then got open to music. Since then I would listen to film scores and try to replicate them by ear on my small cheap keyboard. Fast forward to high school and I decided I wanted to be an actor and director …..and everything else thanks to a filmmaker who just jumped on the scene called Robert Rodriguez who did everything on his first film.

Mix in a little John Leguizamo for actor/writer/stand up-ish inspiration and so began my adult journey. I was a background actor, then stand-up comic, then an indie filmmaker then professional editor (MTV and Viacom was my main employers) then I did a couple of film composing using my now suped up logic pro program with all the music instruments you can think of. Got hired to direct video promos, sketches and music videos. And then went back to acting now as a successful voice over actor. So yeah, I’m a storyteller and I love to use whatever medium I can to tell interesting stories.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
I think I have been rejected in so many ways in so many roles (writer, act, director) that now it is not as big as it was before lol. This business is a numbers game and sometimes there will be a lot of no’s and a lot of rejection than there are accomplishments. Highlights were bombing my biggest audition for the movie “carlitos way the beginning”, almost wiping out an entire filmed season and not backing up any footage for an editing gig for a major show (almost got blackisted) composing an entire film score and waiting to get paid only to have the producer never pay me and give me any credit for the extra music I created. Also, I ended up have serious stomach issues for years that left me bedridden and had to stop pursuing anything for a while I got better.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a writer/director/voice actor. As a voice actor I am currently part of the award winning audiobook series “A Court of thorn and roses” as the co lead “Rhysand”. As an editor, I have professional edited for Viacom for MTV shows like the 2020 MTV VMAs, Guy Code, and Girl Code. As a director, I have directed sketches like Gente of thrones and Bago Briefs and some others for Buzzfeed and Broadway Video. I am most proud of the series of video comedy sketches I did for the sketch group I was a part of called “room28”. We did so many with a short time span and I everything for the sketches and to me they helped shaped my work.

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
Never wait for an opportunity. You have to be active and do as much as you can to create your own opportunities.
