Conversations with Anthony Oyatayo

Today we’d like to introduce you to Anthony Oyatayo.

Hi Anthony, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My journey into interior design began in a very organic way. A friend once shared that his brother had hired an interior designer for his new home. Out of curiosity, I asked about the cost and asked to see the designer’s work. When I saw the results, my immediate reaction was, “Wait… I can do this.”

At the time, I had already been designing my own spaces instinctively….curating layouts, finishes, and furniture simply because it felt natural to me. I’ve always had a strong eye for design and, more importantly, I loved seeing people’s reactions when they walked into a thoughtfully put-together space. That emotional response, the way a space can shift how someone feels, really stuck with me.

That moment pushed me to take my passion seriously. I enrolled in interior design courses through the New York Institute of Art and Design, where I was able to formalize my skills and deepen my understanding of design principles, space planning, and client needs. After completing the program, I officially launched my business and began offering my services to the public.

Today, what started as a natural instinct has evolved into a professional practice rooted in intentional design, functionality, and creating spaces that genuinely reflect the people who live in them.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely hasn’t been a completely smooth road and I don’t think meaningful creative paths ever are. One of the biggest challenges was stepping into a new industry and fully owning my identity as a designer. Turning something that came naturally into a legitimate business required learning how to price services, communicate value, and build trust with clients who were often seeing my work for the first time.

Another challenge was balancing the creative side of design with the operational side of running a business. Everything from client management and timelines to sourcing and logistics. Like many entrepreneurs, I had to learn quickly and often through experience.

That said, each challenge helped refine my approach. The learning curve pushed me to become more confident in my vision, more intentional in my process, and more disciplined as a business owner. Looking back, those early struggles were essential as they shaped how I work today and strengthened my commitment to delivering thoughtful, elevated spaces for my clients.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I specialize in residential interior design, creating thoughtfully curated spaces that feel elevated, functional, and personal. My work focuses on clean lines, intentional layouts, and a balanced use of color, texture, and materials…spaces that feel refined yet livable. I’m especially known for transforming rooms in a way that feels cohesive and complete, while still reflecting my clients’ individual lifestyles and personalities.

One aspect that sets me apart is my ability to bridge creativity with clarity. I offer 3D design packages that allow clients to fully visualize their space before any major decisions are made. This not only helps clients feel confident throughout the process, but also minimizes surprises and streamlines execution. Being able to “see” the space in advance has been a game-changer for many of my clients and is a key part of my design approach.

What I’m most proud of is the trust my clients place in me, allowing me to translate their ideas into spaces they genuinely love living in. Seeing their reactions when a design comes together is incredibly rewarding. At the core of my work is the belief that great design should feel both beautiful and intuitive, and that philosophy continues to guide everything I create.

How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
People can work with me by reaching out directly for residential interior design services, whether they’re looking for full-room design, styling, or 3D design packages to help visualize their space before moving forward. I work closely with clients to understand their vision, lifestyle, and goals, ensuring the final result feels intentional and personal.
I’m also always open to collaborations with real estate professionals, builders, and other creatives who value thoughtful design and quality execution. Those partnerships often lead to some of the most rewarding and impactful projects.

For those who want to support my work, sharing my business, engaging with my content, or recommending my services to friends and family goes a long way. Word-of-mouth has been incredibly meaningful to my growth, and I truly appreciate everyone who supports the journey.
