Conversations with Anna Platen

Today we’d like to introduce you to Anna Platen.

Anna Platen

Hi Anna, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was born in Germany in a pretty traditional household. But I guess I was not quite the traditional kid. I always felt too much and expressed too much. I never quite knew where I belonged. At 13, I threatened my parents to quit school if they would not find a place where I could belong – and good for them, they actually did – the theatre! From there I went to acting school, playing the lead in major German theatre productions and starring in German TV shows and movies. Two years ago I decided to take a leap and move to Los Angeles. I don’t regret it a single day. The hustle is a little more challenging, but I love the creative energy. I still go back to Europe some times to shoot movies, but I am home in California now.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
There’s a beautiful German saying “Wege entstehen indem man sie geht” meaning “paths are created by walking them”. Being an actor is a very scary thing, but since it is all I know, I assume any job is scary sometimes. Rejection, superficiality, comparison – it can get rough and it is actually the opposite of what I am trying to do – connecting. I guess it is important to know who you are, and what you stand for and to accept that not everybody is going to love you or put you in their movie. And another important note: don’t take it personally, everyone has their own agenda.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am known for being an actress but that does not define me or make me proud. What really makes me proud is if I can be human, if I can be an empath, if I can connect and relate. It makes me proud to create a tiny change in our world to make this a more beautiful place for all living beings and plants.

Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
I am currently reading Gabrielle Bernstein’s “The Universe Has Your Back”. The book was placed at my front door, I picked it up and started reading. It is a beautiful, spiritual guidance. Other books I really love are “The Power of Now” (Eckhart Tolle), “The Tools” (Phil Stutz), and “Breaking The Habit of Being Yourself” (Joe Dispenza).
