Today we’d like to introduce you to Angel Undisputed.
Hi Angel, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I started Undisputed World Champions as a personal project in the Fall of 2019. I had been around the local ska scene for many years up to that point and I always had the desire to start my own project. My intention and goal from the start was to be different to any other band/artist from the scene. This meant different in sound, image, look, and lyrical content. From the start, I released an EP that contained different types of sounding songs and mixed genres to establish the diversity in sound that was to come. The project is rooted in Ska but I’ve taken it different places, merging the genre with others. I have been blessed to have been surrounded by great and talented musicians since I started the project and I have had great contributors to the music and recordings for the project. This practice in collaboration, behind the scenes, lets me take the sound for Undisputed World Champions to different places.
When the project started I took to live performances immediately. I had many years of experience under my belt and knew the ropes on how to get in front of a crowd. At first, getting booked on other shows can be quite a task for anybody. We organized and promoted the first shows we played. This gradually allowed us to have doors opened up and soon we hit the road with out of town shows. Undisputed World Champions has always been in a constant pace of working. I release new music fairly often and always pop up in a new city to perform. I’ve made it easy to find our songs and content. It has been a very fulfilling experience. I find joy in the journey and the things that get done for the project. I had this desire in my mind to go out there and show my interpretation of Ska and I am truly happy that others are enjoying it.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I interpreted “bumps on the road” and just something that had to be worked through.
With the experience I had up to that point in time that I started Undisputed World Champions, it helped me navigate the waters easier since I had already been through almost any situation that can come up.
We organized our own shows at first to get noticed. We produced our own Live Streams during the pandemic in 2020. We purchased our own recording equipment and invested into the production of our own recordings. We booked our own out of town and out of country shows until promoters from those places started to notice and work with us.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Undisputed World Champions is known for the “Trap Ska” sound. I grew up listening and currently almost always listen to hip-hop/rap music. I merged that part of my music world with my love for Ska. You can hear it in the songs and see it in the content and music videos I’ve released.
