Conversations with Amir Kenyi

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amir Kenyi

Hi Amir, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I have always been around music and entertainment since I was a young boy due to my parents (Tasha Scott and Lamar Tribble). I started singing at the age of 5 and started recording professionally at 9. I’ve been singing and acting since then. 11 years later, I am now 20 years old with my first EP titled “In Tears” out now on all music streaming platforms. During those 11 years I studied my crafts and looked up to entertainers ranging from “Brandy” to “Frank Sinatra”. My talents and love for what I do is motivation to strive and never give up. I was born to share my talents with the world.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Being a young queer artist of color, it definitely hasn’t been easy. I’ve faced so many challenges. I’ve had my work taken from me and i’ve had numerous amount of people give me false promises. False promises from well know people you wouldn’t even expect. It makes you question your worth and true self. I cherish what I do. Anyone who knows me knows that I take music very serious because it’s such an emotional experience. You put your heart and soul out there for the world to know. It’s a very vulnerable journey. But at the same time that’s what I love about it.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am an independent artist as well as a singer/songwriter, music producer, audio engineer, and actor. I currently own my own record label (Mirlay Records). I have sultry and smooth vocals that blends Jazz with modern R&B. One thing I am most proud of is the discipline and dedication I put into my work. There are very few in my generation who have authenticity, passion, and goals. Given that I am an independent artist, I write, produce, engineer, mix and master etc. all my myself. The list goes on and on. People think that recording artist just go to the studio and record. It is so much more than that. My newest single “Sunday Lovin’” is set to be released on January 10th, 2025.

What makes you happy?
My family and friends play a big role in my happiness. My sister (Malayiah Tribble) is my heart. She always reminds me to keep going. My mother and father always tell me that I was placed on this earth to make my mark and make a change through my gifts. I am truly blessed to have a solid substructure in my life. Some are not so lucky to have that. I also find joy in music and creativity. Like I said prior music is emotional. Being able to enjoy and create music that is meaningful and relatable is such a privilege and a blessing. I wouldn’t exchange it for anything in this world.
