Today we’d like to introduce you to Amber Cornell.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
A part of me has always known that I would end up doing something within the Beauty Industry. From a young age, I was fascinated by the aesthetics of women. So be it eyelashes, eyebrows, lips, makeup, hair, etc etc. I practically grew up in a hair salon because my mother was a hairdresser. In 2007 I finally dipped my toes into the industry when I attended Esthetician School, I was instantly in love. I had without a doubt found what I was meant to do. In 2009 I made a jump into motherhood. For the time being my dreams and aspirations took a back seat. My husband at the time and I decided that it would be best for me to stay home with our girls and honestly at that time I was ok with it. My girls are my world, they taught me so much about myself and my uncanny ability to put others first. In 2017 for the first time in years, I decided to put myself first. My marriage was a mess and I was unhappy. I was lost and confused, I didn’t know what to do or what route to take. My now ex-husband made a comment that made me realize I needed to make a move, “we should just co-exist for the girls.” That is not at all the example I wanted my girls to see, I wanted them to know what true love was and believe in it. When I left, I had absolutely nothing. I hadn’t worked in seven years.
My job was to stay at home and take care of our girls. I had regularly been getting my eyelashes done and loved it. I thought to myself I could do this and be really good at it, not only was this the right fit in a monetary sense, it was the right fit because of the amount of people I would be able to connect with on a regular basis. Someone near and dear to me once said the best way to get out of self is to help others. The time had come. It was time for me to do it on my own. It was easily one of the toughest things I’ve ever done, but it was so worth it in the end. I started my own Eyelash Academy (Valencia Lash Academy). I thought why not capitalize on a service in an industry that is not going anywhere anytime soon, it doesn’t hurt that passion led me here. It has allowed me to provide a beautiful life for the biggest part of me, my daughters. Since the start of my school in 2020, I have learned so much about myself and my ability to overcome. Since 2020 I’ve trained well over 100 students and helped many women find their passion. I looked forward to teaching and helping many more! My business is growing and I am super excited to see what else life has in store for me.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Is anything ever really a smooth road? I think the biggest things that I had to regularly overcome were self-doubt and commitment. Those voices in your head that tell you that you are not good enough or that you don’t deserve this. I work arduously on a regular basis to quiet those voices. Meditation, breath work and manifestation have been paramount parts to my success. Staying committed has also been one of the biggest things to overcome. Staying committed to learn new techniques and staying current with trends in the industry. Being committed to being the best lash artist and allowing myself to grow. Being committed to a growth mindset. I can always learn more and be better. Anything worth having is worth fighting for.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am an Esthetician who specializes in Volume Lash Extensions. I also teach and certify others on how to perform this service safely and properly. I am known for having clean work and a calming energy. My students often tell me that they love having me as their trainer because I am very kind, easy going and patient with them. My attention to detail is what I feel sets me apart.
In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
Regardless of the ups and downs of the world and economy, my business will continue to grow because this industry isn’t going anywhere. People will always want to look good because it makes them feel good.
Look good=Feel good= Confidence
