Today we’d like to introduce you to Allegra Venturi.
Hi Allegra, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
My name is Allegra Venturi; I was born and raised in London, UK, by a Spanish mother and Italian father. I also attended the French Lycée, which, luckily, has made me fluent in all four languages from a very young age. People tend to say I have a bit of a Transatlantic accent and they aren’t wrong! After High school, I made my way over to New York and attended NYU for the next four years, graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree in Arts Management and Art History. During those years, I organized exhibitions and pop-up shows for artists, which garnered my love for production. In my last semester, I took my first acting class, solidifying my existing passion for performance and the film world.
Shortly after graduating, I was accepted into the Two-Year Conservatory program at Michael Howard Studios. It was a rigorous program, which also had a key focus on the Business side of the Film Industry. The next year after graduating I signed with a UK agency, organized two exhibitions, performed in an Off Broadway reading and acted in three short films.
I am currently living between London and the US, traveling there when needed for work.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Any creative path is always filled with its ups and downs, but I have been blessed with wonderful opportunities to do what I love. I’ve found that one of the most fulfilling parts of Acting, Producing or Event Production is the incredible and talented people I’ve met along the way. Whenever I lose my creative drive, I seek inspiration from museums, films, plays, or collaborative projects. These experiences reignite my passion and keep me going. The film industry is, of course, filled with countless rejections, but I do find comfort in knowing that if it’s not now, one day my time will come. Especially with acting, it’s not a race to the finish line; it’s an ongoing journey.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am an Actress, Producer, and Special Events Coordinator.
I have acted in various films in both the US and the UK that have successfully entered the festival circuit.
Notably, the short film ‘Curtain Call’ premiered at the San Francisco Independent Festival and won Best Short Film at both ARFF Paris (Around International Film Festival) and Hollywood Blvd Film Festival in July 2023. The comedy short ‘Midway’ was awarded “Best Ensemble” at The Big Fridge International Film Festival in London in August 2023. Since then, I have completed ‘Friuli’, a WW2 drama based in Italy and ‘Erased’, a drama-thriller from director Hunter Lyon.
I will make my Directorial debut this May 2024 with the coming-of-age drama film ‘Sick Enough’ written by Olivia Benedict. The story centers around Stella, a 19-year-old girl that attends an eating disorder treatment center. Halfway through her treatment she is cut off by her insurance company, propelling her to examine the true source of her illness.
My experience in acting has provided a solid foundation for directing my first film, and I’m eagerly anticipating the opportunity to collaborate with actors on this project. I’m really proud of the team we’ve assembled, and projects like these continuously reaffirm my passion for filmmaking, whether it’s behind or in front of the camera. I have come on board as Producer for the Sci-Fi short film ‘Eureka’ written and directed by Nicholas Lazovic. We’ve just gotten the Greenlight for moving forward with Production. The film is set to shoot in July 2024 and will serve as a proof of concept for an attached feature-length screenplay. (Follow us on IG @eurekashortfilm)
I am also a Special Events Coordinator, specializing in producing a wide range of events tailored to each client, whether they are gallery openings, private dinners, or larger corporate events. I have recently curated a successful art exhibition for photographer Nathalie Samen and am in the process of organizing a themed cocktail party for over 40 people with chef Riccardo Manca from Two Michelin Star restaurants, Ikoyi. I bring a fresh perspective, attention to detail, and creativity into projects, making each extremely unique. Working closely with the client to organize their desired layouts is extremely fulfilling and has prepared me for Producing narrative projects in film.
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Growing up, I had a deep love and appreciation for the arts. I was lucky to be surrounded by creative parents who encouraged me to try different sports and art forms throughout my High School years. I grew up watching old movies and going to museums/ exhibitions with my mom. I remember staying up late watching films that I sometimes ended up watching four or five times in a row. Our favorite was ‘Sunset Boulevard,’ and we’d find ourselves reciting back famous lines from this movie and others. She took me to ballet shows, musicals, theatre productions and opened my eyes to the world of performance. I’m grateful for my mom for sparking my curiosity and passion for the film world, providing me with a solid foundation on the history of cinema.
