Conversations with Alicia Clark

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alicia Clark.

Hi Alicia, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I am Alicia Clark, and I am a working actress/singer. I grew up in California in a bilingual household. My mother is Chinese and my father is Swedish-American, so I grew up speaking both Chinese and English with my parents. I first started showing potential as a singer when I was four years old, so I quickly joined community productions and music groups in the same year.

I had my first stage role of Nala in the Lion King musical production by Karen’s Kids Production, and afterward, I started training more in acting with Mr. Todd Lien, a professional actor and acting coach in Hollywood. In the meantime, I also started training in singing with Mr. Maxwell David, the vocal coach for celebrities such as Olivia Rodrigo in Hollywood. In the past several years, I have worked hard to train and to earn opportunities to perform and pursue my passion on different platforms and opportunities. I have performed for many different shows, such as Hollywood Fringe Festival 2019 & 2022, Crazy Talented Asian Jr. sponsored by Warner Brothers through iStage Entertainment. I have also acted in several music videos, feature/short films, and commercials. In addition, I have also been building my Youtube Channel, Alicia Clark with one of the cover songs receiving more than 11K views.

I am currently studying musical theater at an art school, and I am where I am today because of my team of manager, parents, and coaches. I work hard because I am passionate about my work and my art.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Being a child performer has not been easy because of the pressure and stress I have from my own high expectations, my parents, school, and time management. While I appreciate everything my parents have done for me, it is not easy to work with so many people on my side because of our differences in communication and working styles. To achieve my goal of becoming a working actress/singer requires us finding the right coaches, right manager, and right production company to work under. One of the struggles was to receive and process rejections and criticisms constantly. I have had to deal with a lot of rejections and criticisms because that’s just the nature of the entertainment business. Once I have auditioned for a musical where the director told me straight up that I was not good at singing after me working really hard for it. However, I believe in constantly improving myself as an artist through training because we are always learning and growing, and my inner drive and passion have got me through these struggles. While I am sure that I will encounter more struggles in the future, I believe in myself and my team who’s got my back.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a freelance bilingual child performer/singer, so I will perform at events, musicals, and showcases. I specialize in pop and musical theater singing, and I also do stage and film acting as well. Being bilingual, I take requests to sing/perform in Chinese and English, and I believe that my unique vocal style, natural stage presence, and being very coachable and professional set me apart from other child performers.

One of my proudest moments is being invited to sing the performance of “The Champion” on Crazy Talented Asian Jr virtual show sponsored by Warner Brothers, which got my name published on well-known publications like BroadwayWorld and Forbes. As a part Chinese singer, I am very proud to be a part of the show and promote Asian American visibility and representation. Besides the film awards I have won through my short films, including the top award in BeiJing, I am very proud of my original song, “You Are Enough”, which has also won original song awards through different film festivals. I am currently in post-production for the music video production for this very song, and I am excited to share with the world when it’s done this year!

Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
My favorite childhood memory is swimming with dolphins in Hawaii when I was 7 because I really like dolphins and it was a super fun and liberating experience.
