Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexis Gonzalez.
Hi Alexis, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers.
I started doing nails the beginning of 2020. COVID had closed down all the nail shops and I was always someone who loved always having their nails done so I decided to order a kit on Amazon and just teach myself off Tiktok and YouTube. I learned that I loved doing nails and challenging myself to execute designs, and I committed to doing nails part-time while I was still working retail at an AT&T store. Fast forward 3 years after I started, I was exhausted and drained from working retail because I wasn’t happy there and made the decision to quit and take my chance on doing nails full time. As of today, I have been self-employed and my own boss for over a year. I am getting new clients every day, and I’m so lucky to be doing such fun and intricate sets that I get to call art. I stayed consistent and never gave up on myself. I practiced and just threw myself into every new design till I got it right. One thing that helped me the most was putting myself out there and always being so proud of my work and showing it off, which helped me get the lovely, loyal clients that keep my business going today.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth road through the whole process. I admit there are times that can be draining and tiring. Being back-to-back with clients daily and, at times, also being their therapist can definitely put a toll on you. These days I make sure I give myself self-care days to unwind and put my phone on DND and to live and focus on my own life and mental health so I can continue to slay these nails.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I do luxury editorial nail sets. I specialize in acrylic and gel x. I am most known for doing dramatic, colorful, textured nail art. As of lately, my 3D flower spring sets have been very popular and so fun to create. I am most proud of how my art has evolved since I first started. I’ve come to the point where I’m able to draw characters on nails. When I first started, I could not even draw a French tip to save my life. I believe my work speaks for itself always, but aside from that, girls love their experience when getting their nails done with me. I respect them and their time just as much as I would want them to respect me and mine. They are not only getting a nail tech but also a friend.
So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
My work, retention, client satisfaction, and my image matter most to me. These things are what keep my consumers happy and coming back but also recommend me to their friends and family, who are also potential clients.
