Conversations with Adam Desure

Today we’d like to introduce you to Adam Desure.

Hi Adam, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Embarking on a hair journey that has spanned over two decades, my scissors have seen it all. Starting 23 years ago at a bustling salon in Los Angeles, I spent four years soaking up cutting and coloring techniques from experts in the field. Those early days were about learning the ropes and finding my footing, but once I did, there was no holding back.
In 2007, the glamor of New York City’s streets beckoned and I headed to hair school. Studying there allowed me to experience the excitement of working on both film sets and editorial shoots, honing my craft in a whole new way. It’s also there I discovered my true passion: men’s hair styling.

The desire to be the best propelled me further to return to school to refine my barbering skills and becoming truly well-rounded. West Hollywood became my creative playground where I was the top stylist at an all-men’s salon.

Fueled by passion and an entrepreneurial vision, I established A/D Studio, eight years ago. It is here, I get to craft styles and foster connections with my clients in a space that’s all about the elevated experience. My studio isn’t just a work space – it’s where I bring transformations to life every single day.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Working in big salons gave me an educated environment to navigate time management and multi-tasking which are invaluable in a one-man barber show. The experience also taught me how to handle the behind-the-scenes gossip and drama, which as a young stylist were difficult to deal with on a daily basis. Another challenge was surviving on the menial percentage that was left after the salon took their cut from my services, despite being the top stylist. Having to advocate for yourself is something hair school cannot teach you.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
For me, it’s all about the experience. From the moment my clients step into the space, a rich, raw-wood floor-to-ceiling design, curated by the eclectic Commonwealth Studios, I want them to feel pampered. Whether they have booked The Cut or the two hour Boulevard, which includes a cut, hot towel shave and facial, both the conversation and the service will leave them feeling, it’s money well spent. I believe it’s the precision and the personal touches that keep my clients coming back. My perm and color skills set me apart from the rest and clients know they are not coming to me for a generic haircut. They’re leaving with a calm mind and a fresh look.

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
A grateful text from a new client, often accompanied by a selfie of them looking handsome and confident post-service, is what I do this for. Knowing I’ve made someone’s day, connecting with them through great conversation and a new look that elevates their confidence is key.
