Today we’d like to introduce you to 2Fly Savi.
Hi 2Fly, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My musical journey started in 2005. I have to play some bay area music cuz where I’m from the hyphy movement was going crazy around this time. I had a shoe box holding my corded 20 dollar microphone and was recording on a pretty high-end computer I was paying off through my mother’s pay as you can plan through her work. I initially started making music as at a time when I needed an alternative to depression due to the passing of my best friend of 17 years old. I noticed music was one of the first dedications I remained consistent with. When I was able to finally understand the fundamentals and record a solid session I opened the opportunity for those around me to vent and express themselves artistically in my home studio.
We went to release four albums and developed a way to monetize and fund our future projects from out of the trunk selling methods. It was great, I recall an album costing us 1,000 dollars for 1,000 copies and making +10,000 on that album. The good days of making money on your music. I shared stages with E-40, Too Short, The Jacka, J-Stalin and Berner. Life was great post-high school for me. The unfun portion was the invading of our freedom of speech by the local authorities. They tried to use our music in court against friends and family painting a narrative that we were street terrorists. Sadly, I was trying to provide a platform to keep people off of the streets and building entrepreneurs and artists alike.
In the present day, we are working on music from LA to the Bay and our reach has expanded worldwide. I still manage to get paid to make our music and paint my picture through sound while understanding the marketing concept of expansion to be established California artists. I spent the last two albums in LA and have had the pleasure of creating music with talented musicians such as Monsta Made Music, Pumbaareyounutz (Snow the products credited DJ and producer) as well as the talented Gullie Lamont (Shouts out my brotha!) Working in LA gave me an edge not on only in expanding my creative process but to understand the heartbeat of the entertainment industry. It defined my sound and inspired me to go full send on my content.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Trial and error. We can start from the restless hours I spent on learning every aspect down to recording myself and technical errors or we can even touch on the politics and how quick people can change on you over the thought of a dollar. It is truly humbling regardless the subject. One thing I learned about Hollywood is, it doesn’t carry that hometown genuinity. When someone shakes your hand and you share a moment of accomplishment with them you can’t truly believe that they feel how you feel. Relationships cost usefulness to most. I’ve literally met someone, vibed with them and shared points of views and became vulnerable only to see the cold shoulder and envy from the same person we broke bread and have ate with. Again, extremely humble because everything is a lesson and it teaches you how to approach things, be better prepared for them and be prepared for either outcome whether good or bad. This can apply to both mentioned above. Adversity exists in all fields of life and as I call the “get back up” period defines the human. Let us all fall and be foolish, but only those with resilience will get up and dust themselves off to shine again.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I started my adult life as an artist. I always had a job to support myself but as soon as I clocked out I clocked in the studio and let my creativity flow. As time progressed and life moved on I had a relationship, was in my own place watching life change in front of me but held on to my passion. Eventually, I enrolled in school and achieved my bachelor’s degree in business with a concentration in marketing. School, full-time work, attentive to my other half and family all while still chasing my dreams musically. It is possible. I have been fighting against the grain since birth and not sure if I’m stubborn or passionate but I will never give up on my dreams. The quality, the following, the love for it has always been a climb even when referring to analytics in the process of doing all of these life tasks.
We expanded from a thousand streams a year to finishing 2022 with 844,000 streams with minimal investing into our marketing. This shows me that we are embraced and loved and all we need to do is work a bit harder to push this dream into a real-life full-time career. Though these numbers always impress me and my team what touches us the most is the feedback we get from our followers. My music touches on intimate subjects and I have been reached out even to express that It prevented someone from taking their own life. That is the feedback I need to continue to be strong and resilient in a time where subject matter and caring seem someone what off. I don’t have an ego as an artist I just love to help with my words and hope I impact lives, that’s my purpose.
What was your favorite childhood memory?
My childhood was rough. I was raised by a single mother with two brothers. I can’t recall a childhood memory of joy other than seeing we met Joe Montana of the 49ers when I was battling a terminal illness at the Stanford Children’s hospital in the bay area. Aside from that it had to be receiving a turbo man toy for Christmas. Go Niners.
