Today we’d like to introduce you to Nancy Karina Medel.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I was born in the heart of Mexico City but was brought to states at an early age. Painting and art have been an outlet for me to feel close to home, however I extended to various other ways to express my art. I’ve always leaned for a holistic lifestyle and through natural ways of healing, such as massage therapy and yoga.
Through them, I learned about energy healing and the metaphysical properties of crystals and I was encouraged me to use them as tools for self-love and growth. Sacred Ocean Waters is a reflection of my healing and artistic journey.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It’s been a beautiful journey that has helped me grow so much as a person. I maintain a positive outlook but there was a time where I lost motivation. One of the hardest challenges has been how to price my creations. I’m naturally a giver so I didn’t want to overcharge my pieces, however I was losing motivation because I was overworking myself and a lot of the time paying out of my pocket for shipping and packaging. Now I’m learning that I am worthy and deserve the abundance and managing my business better. I’m constantly reminding myself of all of the beautiful opportunities and people I have met through Sacred Ocean Waters and that keeps me in a state of gratitude.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I create jewelry inspired by the frequencies of Mother Earth and the Unalome— a symbol in Buddhism that reflects the twist and turns of our journeys. I am of Mexican descent, however my personal path is heavily influenced by eastern philosophy. Throughout my work, I portray booth aspects of my roots and the seeds that I have planted. One of the most proud moments in my journey is that I was aligned an opportunity to send Jhene Aiko a pair of earrings!
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
The most important lesson that I’ve learned in my journey is to stay authentic to myself— by doing so, I will grow in my craft and be aligned with the right people and experiences.
