Today we’d like to introduce you to Melanie Sánchez.
Hi Melanie, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
To start off, I’ve always considered myself as a creative/artistic person. I would try out new things such as painting, resting projects, and now polymer clay earrings! I started looking into a new hobby and came upon a few videos on TikTok of polymer clay earrings. I then switched to YouTube and started researching what I needed and how to start. After a few videos, Amazon is where I went to order the first few supplies I needed to start this new hobby. I then thought to myself, I can potentially make a business out of this! Since then, I gained the courage to start my Instagram @monaclay_designs and started my small business journey! I wouldn’t be doing this without the love, help, and support from my husband Mariano, my best friend Gissel, and my parents.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I would say since I’m still fairly new to this business, It hasn’t completely been a smooth road. I get frustrated sometimes because a vision I had doesn’t come out the way I wanted to, or I don’t make sales at all for week. It’s also difficult creating new ideas and designs without having the fear that someone will think you’re copying their artwork as well. But like I said since I’m still new, I know that these are the steps in the road that will lead to success in the future!
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Right now, I am creating new designs for my Polymer Clay Business! I started this in September 2020 and have seen a tremendous amount of improvement from when I first started. I’m most proud of the way I keep pushing myself to create more even though some of my work isn’t selling. I feel like what sets me apart from others would be that not many people know about polymer clay jewelry, and in a way I’m introducing them to a new form of jewelry they can wear!
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
I create my designs on an old TV stand in my bedroom! That is my “ work station” and I’m proud of that. The space in our apartment is limited, so I can’t make a designated “ work station.” I always do feel my knees cramping up after a few hours, haha. It’s worth it though, because I know sooner or later I will have my workstation that will make me create better things for everyone!

- My earrings vary in price and as of right now can be as low as $10 and as high as $18
- Custom orders start at $18 and it also depends on the design.
