Conversations with Kristina Nguyen

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristina Nguyen.

Hi Kristina, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My passion for baking began over 15 years ago when I discovered that I could expand my creativity onto cake. As a lover of all artsy things, I found cake decorating to be the most therapeutic. It was something that I could easily spend hours or days on with unwavering enthusiasm.

For my family and friends, I always enjoyed whipping up small desserts for special occasions. I continued baking small cakes through college. It wasn’t until after college that I started baking on a bigger scale and taking orders. My first few orders consisted of small dessert items, and soon after, evolved into my end-product goal: custom cakes. Determination, patience, and sacrifice have brought me to where Crumblette is today. For almost seven years now, creating custom cakes has taught me invaluable life lessons and continues to be one of my biggest joys in life. As a hobby-turned small business, I truly appreciate every opportunity and will always be grateful for all of the support I’ve received on this cake journey. Clients have become like family, and being able to contribute a small part into their big day is a memory that I will always cherish. 🙂

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has definitely not been a smooth road. I’ve faced many challenges and made many mistakes over the years. Struggles with design, balance between my day job/class/baking, organization… accidents… you name it, But you live and you learn. And you get up and get better. All a part of the growing process and I am grateful for it all. 🙂

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
In terms of cakes, I specialize in custom designs and characters. I am most proud of my attention to detail. A lot of my characters, decorative pieces, and designs are hand-cut and assembled. It’s tedious work, but I love it! Outside of cakes, I am currently a physical therapy aide looking to pursue a career path in either physical therapy or medicine as a physician assistant. We’ll see what the future holds! Maybe in the far future, I can open up my dream bakery (haha!)…

What’s next?
Maybe grad school… maybe a bakery… or maybe both eventually! We’ll see 🙂
