Conversations with Keyon Coleman

Keyon, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My rap career begins in October 2018 following a traumatic car accident that resulted in me going to jail for a DUI, almost losing my career, my license, and paying over 10,000 in fines. At one of my lowest points, I used music as a means of therapy and an outlet for my issues and stress.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
There have been a lot of times of uncertainty and lack of clarity when deciphering whether this is something I can possibly get to the next level with. At the same token, I haven’t viewed this as a means of getting rich but rather a means of venting how I feel.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I perform administrative duties as a Second Class in the United States Navy. I’m known to be a very energy driven individual that’s very deep on positivity. I try to look out for the people closest to me as much as possible and what separates me from others is that I’m a very authentic individual that has no shame in admitting my wrongdoings. I prefer my own space and time to think and gather my thoughts and I enjoy reading as much as possible. Very well rounded but all about self-awareness and growth.

Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
I consider myself to be a huge risk-taker. Although a lot of the risks I take are calculated, I still can consider myself an overall risk-taker. I believe that taking risk are the only ways that you can evolve in life and get to the next level. Whether good or bad, big or small, you must be prepared to take risks to have any increased risk of success.
