Conversations with Jiovani Cervantes

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jiovani Cervantes.

Hi Jiovani, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
A year ago, I was actually attending Eastern Washington University in Spokane, Washington. Striving for a degree in Law, Immigration Law specifically, I had a great two years there until I had an existential crisis my sophomore year and realized that I wasn’t doing what I truly wanted with my life. Eventually, my motivation for school declined while my love for styling bloomed again, which led me to making that leap of faith and dropping out of school to pursue my career as a personal stylist. A week later after that, my life long friends in LA gave me a call and said I had the opportunity to come do what I love out there, I bought my plane ticket that night and flew out another week later. For the next several months, I would be working on structuring my own styling business, connecting with other stylists and getting my foot in the door of the fashion industry. Thus, Jiovani’s Personal Styling was created! I now style clients around the nation and internationally, as well as providing styling services to Artist Development agencies in Los Angeles, Atlanta and New York.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Anyone who has ever or is currently chasing their dreams knows that it’s not supposed to be a smooth road. Otherwise, there’s no character development or knowledge and experience gained. I’ve certainly had my battles with adversity along the way, everything you can think of from living in one of the most expensive cities in the nation with only a couple dollars in your pocket, losing friendships, couch surfing, friends passing back home and I couldn’t even attend the funerals, blew a few business opportunities here and there, it’s been one hell of a ride. However, I walk with no fear or worry in body because I give it all to God.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
As a personal stylist, I specialize in changing the way people get dressed and see themselves in the mirror! I’ve always been a firm believer and witness that style can be used as a tool for self-expression and personal development. I assist individuals in finding the confidence within themselves to make their mark in this world and do it with a stylish flare! From wardrobe consultations, closest cleanses, outfit creation sessions, personal lookbooks, with my one-on-one styling services clients never have to look in their closet and think, “I don’t have anything to wear” again. What makes me the most proud is seeing how my clients navigate through their lives with their new sense of style and confidence, they wear it so well and they deserve all of the benefits that come with doing so!

Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
There’s three tools that I use to help me do my best in life: prayer, writing and reading. The world becomes a bit more tolerable and my character a bit more developed every time I dive into these things.
