Today we’d like to introduce you to Stephanie Martinez.
Stephanie, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
After becoming a stay at home mom, I knew I needed a creative outlet that would let me blend my two loves (my daughter and designing) together. So, I thought “Why not create my own brand?!” I love to match outfits with my daughter and I get so excited when we can match from head to toe. There is how the idea of creating a ‘mama and me’ t-shirt line with cute sayings was born. Now, I am even more excited that it has morphed into something bigger than just matching tees.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It’s really hard being a stay at home mom and having your own business. Finding time to do everything can be overwhelming. I’ve learned that if I write everything down and stay as organized as possible, it helps. Of course, any journey has its bumps in the road, you just have to learn from them and move on.
My advice to women just starting out would be to make sure you are truly passionate about the journey you are about to take. There are going to be great days, however, there will be days where you want to give up or days where you think you can’t do it, but if you are truly passionate, you will find a way to make it happen.
What should we know about Honey and Rose? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Honey & Rose provides a unique way for mamas and their little ones to bond over fun, matching shirts. Motherhood is tough and there’s no one “right way” to do it, but I believe that as long as you are being true to yourself and you put your kids first, you’re already doing a great job. The message I hope to get across is that no one is perfect and that’s okay. I like to post “real” pictures of the not so perfect side of motherhood because it’s a reality. And sometimes, it’s just funny and cute to see a crying baby.
What do you feel are the biggest barriers today to female leadership, in your industry or generally?
I feel the biggest barriers are the ones we put on ourselves. Sometimes, we give up before we even try. I feel you have to go into life thinking anything is possible, even if you don’t succeed at least you tried.
