Today we’d like to introduce you to Rachel McCord.
Rachel, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I come from really humble beginnings in Georgia. The joke (but reality) is that I went from trailer parks to red carpets. It’s been a LONG road… and it hasn’t always been easy. In fact, it’s been pretty hard. But my core belief is that you can’t cheat the hustle. I know I wasn’t the smartest or richest person in most rooms… but I knew that I would push to be the one who worked the hardest.
I am so grateful for everything that has happened over the past few years. I cried when Vogue covered me. It was super validating. But, I also LOVE being an investor/judge on Elevator Pitch. It is such a BLAST! It has lead to some really thoughtful consulting opportunities and collabs with The McCord List, my network of influential women. We host them at my monthly photoshoot and gifting party in Hollywood!
Whether I am on camera or not, my daily passion is to inspire my community to overcome obstacles and SLAY!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Umm… no! It has not been a smooth road (lol). But, I am SO grateful for the process. I think insecurities, tears, and years are part of the investment you make in yourself and your business. I literally wrote a whole book (Slay the Fame Game) about the ups and downs of building a brand on social media.
My top 5 take aways are:
1) Always believe in yourself. You need your thoughts to be your BFFs. Think positively, know your worth, and never give up on yourself
2) Be open to the process. What you end up doing may not be exactly what you envisioned… but it can actually be must better! Enjoy it. Have fun. This is your life. It should be lived on your terms.
3) Get a supportive group of QUEENS around you! People you are inspired by. This is incredibly important.
4) Define success YOUR way. For me, it is a life of peace, love, fun, and LOTS of fabulous. For one person, it could be G Wagons and red carpets, while another might be a spouse and a kid. Whatever it is… celebrate and honor it. Don’t fight, judge or allow others to criticize it.
5) Brand yourself… or someone else will! Decide who you want to be known for… and be that… authentically! =)
What should we know about The McCord List? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I help lifestyle, fashion, wellness, and beauty brands with social media, branding, and collaborations with The McCord List, my community of fellow talent, celebs, influencers, and media.
We host a monthly photo shoot to connect brands to the influential ladies in my community. And I appear as an investor/judge on Elevator Pitch, to advise companies on how to capitalize on emerging media platforms and scale their marketing efforts.
Who do you look up to? How have they inspired you?
My mom inspires me. She went through a really hard divorce when I was in high school, so I have always been amazed by her strength to pick her life back up and set healthy boundaries for herself.
I’m also inspired by my mentor, Betsy McLaughlin, Bethenny Frankel, Lori Griener, and all of the influential ladies on The McCord List.
