Today we’d like to introduce you to Kim O’Hara.
Kim, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My life journey comes from following my deepest inner voice and trusting that intuition. After two decades as a movie producer and screenwriter, I needed a change. I had no idea what direction I would go. I had two small children, was getting divorced, and had never asked anyone for help. Coaching was not typically sought in entertainment. I went to a business event in Arizona after someone guided me to writing coach sites, and there, in a room with 250 women lifting me up, I embraced the concept of Book Coach. Several years into the business, I realized I had a gift beyond just writing and story coaching; I could see into my clients’ deeper truths and journeys. So, I added Intuitive to the title. Today, I love to help ambitious clients powerfully turn their words and stories into books with passion, purpose, and urgency. If you have waited twenty years to write the book of your dreams, and people keep telling you that you should write a book, you are held back by not listening to your inner truth, and fear. Believe me, I have walked through some very tragic truths, including sexual abuse recovery, and I am not just standing but thriving. You can too!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
While many of my clients are in their 40s and 50s, I work with a few millennial clients telling their story and what I find beautiful and refreshing about their work is they believe even in their late twenties that they already have a story to tell. They know this may be the first of many books, and they go into the process with incredible curiosity. I wouldn’t have the pleasure of being of service to so many incredible clients if I wasn’t curious about what was next for me when I wanted to never write or instruct people on how to write again.
Some of the biggest struggles for me have been not believing in myself and listening to all the societal noise around me. If you know that you are on a path, it feels good, a little scary but is providing you with a new sense of purpose and passion, no other noise matters.
What should we know about A Story Inside? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
What sets me apart is that my clients walk away from my Signature VIP Outline Day saying that this service alone was game changing for them, and they haven’t even written the book. For five hours without stopping, based on a questionnaire I give them beforehand (based off a discovery call when they enroll), I hear them tell me about all the stories of their lives. I ask questions and do all the typing, and they are free to speak, feel emotions and have epiphanies. There are many “Oh wow” moments where they are putting patterns in their lives together for the first time. While it sounds like a lot of therapy, I am not working in that capacity with them. I am simply there to witness and finesse their narrative into a book that can inspire, entertain and educate readers. I am launching my first A Story Inside video product October 1st called What Is In An Outline? People who come to my website can go through a free five video series that in itself is incredible teaching value, and then have the option to buy this very reasonably priced product. I am also proud of my service in writing my book about sexual abuse and have donated proceeds from the book signings to The Stuart House in Santa Monica, CA.
For good reason, society often focuses more on the problems rather than the opportunities that exist, because the problems need to be solved. However, we’d probably also benefit from looking for and recognizing the opportunities that women are better positioned to capitalize on. Have you discovered such opportunities?
If women do not second guess their bigger dreams, they can do anything. I was crying last night seeing the video on YouTube of the first African American woman in Boston voted into Congress. As women have more visibility for the indiscretions, they can use this exposure to catapult causes they believe in and make a great change in the world. Women can also shatter the glass ceiling financially but at the same time have values of family and home. I make sure that while I work a lot on my business, I am always picking my daughters up at school and listening to what their day was like.
