Conversations with the Inspiring Jordan Cahill

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jordan Cahill.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Jordan. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I grew up in a suburb of Omaha, Nebraska called La Vista. There, myself and my six siblings had a lovely, hardworking childhood. We didn’t have much money, but we had so much fun and I can fully attribute my creativity and freedom to explore my world to my upbringing.

Right before my junior year of high school, my father passed away from brain cancer. This sent once normal life into a new realm of adulthood at a young age. When college rolled around, I attended Boston College with a Mathematics major for my freshman year. During one of the most challenging emotional years of my life. Off my mom’s support, I decided to move across the country to a state I’d never been too to attend Chapman University’s Dodge College of Film & Media Arts for a degree in Screenwriting.

Today, I am a full-time Production & Development Coordinator at a wonderful company that is bringing amazing content to the forefront of the entertainment world!

On the side, I write prose, poetry and screenplays. The big goal is to tell stories that matter, that make a difference, and that bring joy, sadness and thoughtfulness to audiences.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Haha, not at all a smooth road! But then again, life would be rather dull if it was easy. I think the biggest struggle for my personal path has been financials and learning to do things that were healthy for my own personal growth.

It’s cliche, but accurate to say if you don’t love yourself and what you believe in first, then the world will find it hard to do so as well. Confidence is everything. Learning to say no to nights out or other’s agendas is equally important as making sure you are a good friend and a good listener. Listening to your gut, but making decisions that propel you forward is the key to a happy life.

And at the end of the day, the best advice I could give is to remember the small things that make this life so incredibly beautiful. Not everyone gets to wake up with food on the shelves, a roof over their head, and experience under their belt — appreciate those things. Form connections that are truthful and deep. And the worst thing anyone could ever say to you is “no, not for me”. But then you just keep on keeping on.

We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I am in the Television and entertainment industry and love everything about it. I specialize in development and production at a new production company in Santa Monica. I can’t disclose too much, but it’s an incredibly passionate, fun, and rewarding working environment as we aim to create content for world audiences.

I think what makes me most proud is knowing the sky’s the limit. Taking something and building it from the ground up is the coolest experience. We are all driven, myself and my co-workers included, to make the most of this opportunity and I think it is humbling and what really sets us apart.

Do you have a lesson or advice you’d like to share with young women just starting out?
Go for it!! So many young people hesitate out of fear of the unknown, or even the fear of being inadequate. The best piece of advice I’ve received from others is to be fearless in your pursuit. The worst thing anyone can say is no. Work hard and work often. Show up on time and read the room always. Know when to add in a comment and when to just listen/learn. And most importantly, be passionate. Passion breeds creativity & happiness.
