Today we’d like to introduce you to Hadeel Sittu.
Hadeel, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
After graduating from college in San Diego, I moved to Hollywood to pursue a career as an actress. I was and still am fortunate enough to work on camera and do a lot of voiceover work but wanted something else I could do to be creative that I was equally passionate about. I began doing makeup for my friends who were actresses and models and that snowballed into full-time makeup work. It has been such an amazing journey working on all the projects I have been lucky to be part of.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I wouldn’t say it was always a smooth road as far as establishing myself in an extremely saturated business. I think the reason I have become successful is I’m always learning and growing in life and in my craft. I am humbled by the fact that I get to do what I love to do and make a living out of it. As far as advice I could give to anyone starting their journey, I would say be open to opportunities for growth, do what you love to do and work hard at it. Continue educating yourself and stay current. Kindness and hard work pay off.
What do you do, what do you specialize in, what are you known for, etc. What are you most proud of? What sets you apart from others?
I work as a makeup artist in the entertainment industry which includes working with celebrities in television and print. I love making people feel good by enhancing their natural beauty. I am most proud of the fact that I am self-taught and self-made and get to work in a field that is highly competitive but extremely rewarding. As far as what sets me apart from others… that’s difficult as that supports comparing which is something I work on not doing. I do know that I embrace the dichotomy of having a goofy personality with a balance of having a strong work ethic. I love my job and try to make it fun for everyone around me.
For good reason, society often focuses more on the problems rather than the opportunities that exist, because the problems need to be solved. However, we’d probably also benefit from looking for and recognizing the opportunities that women are better positioned to capitalize on. Have you discovered such opportunities?
I feel like now more than ever there are so many opportunities for women to excel in whatever they set out to do. I do recognize that women are still undervalued and underpaid but I hope amidst the current climate that a catalyst for change will happen. As far as opportunities women are well-positioned for I say anything and everything. I was always encouraged to do whatever I set out to do and I think as long as you have a strong support system backing you then the chance for success in whatever you set out to do is endless.
