Today we’d like to introduce you to Amy Soto.
Amy, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My life has been such a crazy roller coaster. I came to LA when I was just two years old and ever since then, my family’s and my life completely changed. Seeing the big sacrifices my parents made for my brother and I to have a better life here in Hollywood, California, made me appreciate everything I have ever received. I started out dancing when I was just five years old, over at my elementary school (SMBCCS). I began to grow a huge passion for dance, mainly hip-hop, which made me decide to continue dancing until this day. As I grew older, I started experimenting with makeup at the age of twelve and I instantly felt as if I was meant to do what I do today which is glamming myself up, drawing cool face paintings on myself, etc. Skipping over to my modeling career, I recently started modeling back in 2015. My friend (@nandosphotos) did a small photo shoot with me because he wanted to have new models on his Instagram account and he naturally saw that I had potential. My whole life changed from there and I credit him for helping me be more confident and for getting me noticed by other photographers. Today, I’m in ZarZar Modeling Agency, Studying to get my doctorate to become a vet, and showing the rest of my talents on YouTube. I have never been more pleased in my life than what I am now because I have the confidence to say that I will make it someday. My goal is to make my family happy and make my dad retire. If you’d like to hear more about me, keep up with me on my Instagram, @amychalcedony. Never forget the person you are when things get rough throughout your life. Good things will come when you least expect them.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
You will face rejection many times but it should never stop you from trying. Never lose your self-worth, just remember that practice will always make perfect. Many people will pray on your downfall but your success will shut the haters up. Keep doing you and just focus on YOU.
Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I’m a model, dancer, artist, and a future vet. I’m very proud of how many irrelevant and judgemental comments I went through to become the fierce eighteen-year-old woman I am today. I’m known for my confidence. Many people are insecure about many things but you’ll never see me being insecure over anything or anyone. God made us all beautiful and we should all be supportive of each other.
Do you have a lesson or advice you’d like to share with young women just starting out?
Always remember to slay and not care about what anybody says. If one person called you “ugly” and you have 1,000 other people calling you “beautiful,” that small, comment shouldn’t even cross your mind because of how irrelevant it is to you.
