Conversations with Christian Scott

Today we’d like to introduce you to Christian Scott.

Hi Christian, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I started off working in investments for a Fortune 500 company in Chicago, IL. I was making good money and had a good life in the city. I had no reason to leave until one day someone asked me what I was passionate about. I questioned myself; was I passionate about my good job, the money I was making, and the life that I was living? Was I really living? When I was growing up, I always told my family that I was gonna move to LA and live in a minivan till I became a successful actor. That was my dream.

I lost myself in the ways of the world and the question had ignited something within me. I decided that I would pursue my passion. I enrolled at 4star casting and got booked as a background actor the next day. Being on set was like being a kid in a candy store. I loved the way I felt at work and decided that this was the life for me. After working on set for and talking with film professionals from all over, I decided it was time to move to Los Angeles.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Nothing worth having comes easy! Those are words I live by. The first obstacle I faced was actually getting to Los Angeles. When I made the decision to move to LA, I just set the date and bought a one-way plane ticket but I had no idea how I was gonna do it. Then doubt and anxiety started to creep into my mind. To fight off the negative thoughts, I just kept telling myself that I could always come back to where I was. That living a life with no regrets was more important to me than fear. I just started to tell my friends and family that I was moving to LA and to me I was holding myself accountable because being true to my word is so important to me. One of my friends told me that she was moving to LA as well and actually at the same time. I had my ticket, my goal time, and a place to stay. That is all I needed to overcome my first obstacle.

My second obstacle and the obstacle that most Angelenos face in my opinion is staying in LA. The financial hardship of being able to afford LA when you arrive and fighting the mindset of leaving to go back to your comfort zone. In the beginning, I realized that the city can provide a lot of ways to make money but you have to stay focused and be strategic to stay on the path that you came to the city for. I took acting classes and did background work to meet people in my industry which opened doors for me as an actor. Fighting the mindset of going back to my comfort zone is a constant struggle but with the support of my LA family, I remember why I am here and stay on my path.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am an actor. I am most proud of my work without speaking. I believe that it’s truly artistic to tell a story without speaking. You can say so much with your body language and facial expressions. My ability to speak without words is what sets me apart from others.

Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
The biggest thing that I have learned from covid-19 is that people love you and that you are not alone. In this city, it’s easy to feel alone but so many of the people here understand what you are going through and actually want to help you. Let them! We need other’s love to be the people we need to be for ourselves and others. Without the love of others during these difficult times, I would not have been able to make it living in Los Angeles during the Covid-19 Crisis.
