Today we’d like to introduce you to Bella Moon.
Hi Bella, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I began my artistry about five years ago. I’ve always been musically and creatively inclined growing up. I played the viola for eight years, was a hiphop dancer for my school’s dance teams, and acted in a couple of musicals. I would always come home from school while my aunt was blasting all of the late 90’s/early 2000 R&B hits. She was also a dancer growing up so she uses to teach me all of her routines she learned at school.
I give her a lot of credit to why my taste in music has always leaned towards R&B. After I graduated from high school and went to college, it was hard staying focused. Mentally I was struggling because adulthood hit me a little harder than some would experience. I used music as my outlet to express my emotions and this is where I found my love for songwriting. I wanted to put all of my passions in one thing (singing, dancing, acting, creating, songwriting, etc.). Eventually, I build enough confidence to take a leap of faith to becoming an artist! I ended up dropping out of college and promised myself if I did, I’d go all in! And ever since, I devote every day into my craft and I haven’t looked back ever since.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
My artistry has been a rollercoaster. I feel like the seed of people’s self-esteem and confidence usually comes from an early age from loved ones around them. I, on the other hand, had none growing up. I was in these after school programs simply because it wasn’t safe to go home. South Nashville was a very dangerous place before it became gentrified. Being Cambodian-American while being raised by my grandparents coming from a third world country to them and many around me, pursuing a career in the arts seemed meaningless. So while I was unaware of the purifying seed I’ve planted on my own, I was molding into who I am now. I simply progressed because of my consistency of my craft. But for a very long time, I had to get rid of that self-doubt. I had to teach myself how to block out the negativity because only I was capable of seeing my true self beyond my current circumstance.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am an R&B butterfly who specializes in songwriting and beautiful, nostalgic melodies that soothes your ears. I write about relatable circumstances pertaining to love and relationships. My aesthetic is parallel to the music I create taking you into a world of bliss and that is what I am known for and what sets me apart from others.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
One of my biggest mentors is my best friend/engineer T McGee. He’s been there from the very beginning and has helped me develop my sound and knew exactly what direction I was going towards. Without him by my side, I wouldn’t be where I am today. He’s been one of my biggest supporters and the best teammate any artist could ask for. I owe a lot to him.
