Conversations with Aly Romano

Today we’d like to introduce you to Aly Romano.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I have worked in fashion for close to 10 years now. I worked my way up from an intern all the way to a set costumer on TV shows such as The Voice, Masterchef, and The Real. I met my husband on set and we eventually got married. I can’t believe we now have a baby girl who is turning three in June!

I always knew I wanted to be a full-time mom so I decided to leave my set days behind me as I knew working long hours wouldn’t allow me to give my daughter all of my attention. As rewarding as it was to be a stay at home mom, I knew I still wanted something of my own. Inspired by dressing her up, I decided to start my own line of baby and kids clothing! After spending all my spare time researching and learning, June And May was born! I found a local manufacturer as well as a screen printer and started bringing my designs to life!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
As with any endeavor, it was definitely not a smooth ride. In fact, I’m still learning! My biggest challenge has been being a one-woman show! From sourcing vendors such as T-shirt manufacturers to screen printers as well as managing the marketing on Facebook/Instagram and sales on my company website. It’s been a struggle for me to balance being a full-time mom and giving all of the time and energy it takes to make a budding new business succeed!

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a designer. I specialize in designing baby and small children’s t-shirts. Our line goes all the way from newborn to seven years old! I love being creative and seeing my ideas come to life. What sets me apart is that all of my shirts are custom made. I even have a line of hand-stitched shirts and I can embroider a personalized message or name. I’m most proud of sending free shirts to a few families who I learned did not have the money to pay for their kid’s clothes during back to school. I also love the look of joy I see in the faces of every happy child who receives my shirts and the satisfaction of their parents while knowing I’ve made a difference in their lives. I’m excited to show the world how my business continues to grow and evolve as I strive to reach as many families as possible.

Any big plans?
I’m so excited to expand my business outside of just tees. I’m currently working on a dress line that I hope to launch in the spring! As with all of my products, they will be custom made with baby-safe ink and 100% non-shrinkable cotton. As the pandemic continues into 2021, it’s reassuring that parents can shop online for high-quality clothing for their children, such as my line, without having to leave the comfort of their own homes.
