Conversations with Alessandra Torresani

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alessandra Torresani.

Hi Alessandra, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
As an actress of almost 25 years, I have always had a passion to entertain and connect with others. I came out with my diagnosis of Bipolar Disorder after being told for many years it was something I shouldn’t share. Hearing stories from fellow actors and many of my fans who were suffering with their own mental health allowed me to have a breakthrough to finally speak my truth and be my authentic self. I started my podcast, EmotionAL Support, last year and have not looked back on who I used to pretend to be. A perfectly put together woman who would never be caught having a manic episode.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I wish it had been a smooth road! Actually, I take that back. If it wasn’t a smooth road, I would never have had these stories of my ups and downs to share. We all go through the emotional rollercoaster of life but we are ashamed to share the intensity of the ride. I had been told never to share being Bipolar as I would be labeled as “difficult and a diva”. Living with a secret can never be good for your health, especially your mental health. I thank everyone else who has opened up about who they truly are and inspiring me to be myself once and for all.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I love to perform! Whether that be in front of the camera doing tv/film or hosting my podcast EmotionAL Support. I mean, let me be really honest, I’ll do anything to make someone laugh, on or off screen! The most proud I’ve been in my professional work would have to be filming my sci-fi show, Caprica. I absolutely love everything sci-fi so it was such a treat. I was obsessed with my film, Netflix’s Step Sisters, for many reasons, but not because I was in it, ha! I loved it because I got to dance all day and night! I met some of my closest girlfriends to this day on that set. We had an opportunity to show female empowerment to a younger audience, and that was the most fulfilling role I could’ve ever played.

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
I’m a black belt in Tae Kwon Do and a National Jazz and Tap Champion!
