Community Highlights: Meet Vanessa Frank

Today we’d like to introduce you to Vanessa Frank.

Hi Vanessa, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I have wanted to work for human civil rights since I can remember. In law school, I discovered immigration law as a beautiful intersection of practical assistance to individual families and the ability to inform and help drive a movement for justice in this country. I opened my own law office in April 2009 in downtown Oxnard, and in June of 2012, I moved to downtown Ventura. The firm has grown ever since.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The biggest obstacle in my practice is the ever-changing nature of immigration regulations and policies and the power of anti-immigrant narratives. Through it all, our office has worked together as a team to keep things as positive as possible, helping our clients know that they are not alone and we will get them the best result. As advocates, the same challenges arise and we have been so glad to have the support of so many concerned US Citizens who are willing to devote their time, their money, and their effort to ensuring as many families as possible remain united and strengthened.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We are a local immigration and human rights advocacy law firm based in Ventura, California. It is our mission to ensure that all im/migrants in our region get the highest quality legal representation and that local advocates have access to the most reliable information about rapidly shifting policies affecting human rights and how to address those challenges.

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
Joy. We seek to bring joy to all the work that we do – with clients, staff, and community leaders and advocates. When everyone feels well, all our lives are improved.
