Community Highlights: Meet Tiffany Faith Demers of Upkeep

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tiffany Faith Demers.

Hi Tiffany, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I grew up in Montreal, Canada. I studied Interior Architecture & Design at The Academy of Art University, with the dream of becoming an interior designer, designing boutique hotels. From a young age, I’ve been financially independent which led me to explore a variety of career paths. These include starting an event planning and influencer marketing company and serving as the Director of North America at Matrix, London, the Director of Global Travel & Beauty at WESSCO International, and the Director of Business Development at M-Theory Group. My range of experience and skillsets helped me develop my entrepreneurial side as well as my creative side. All of these experiences and skillsets spanning technology, beauty, and design, led me to found Upkeep, the new beauty app providing the first digital marketplace for the Medical Aesthetic and MedSpa industry in the U.S.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It hasn’t always been a smooth road for me. As I mentioned, I have been independent from a young age and am not your textbook C.E.O. Simply put, in the Venture Capital world there is a barrier to entry that is not female-friendly or as receptive to other marginalized identities. Even optically as society seems to be shifting towards inclusivity, venture funding actually dropped from 2.8% to 2.3% in 2020 for female founders. That 2.8% in 2019 was, believe it or not, an all-time high. That’s a serious problem. That statistic alone makes it next to impossible for us to be taken seriously in the startup world. I’m very passionate about the idea that people with different experiences and ways of thinking are actually a significant value-add to VC. Diverse investments are not charity, they enhance businesses and systems on every level. I’m set out to prove that!

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I am the Founder and C.E.O. of Upkeep, an app that allows clients to book MedSpa treatments like Botox, Laser Hair Removal, Fillers, Next-Gen Facials, and Body Contouring with the touch of a button. Similar to Apps like Uber, users can easily search, book, and pay for beauty sessions near their location in minutes within a carefully curated list of trusted treatment facilities.

Upkeep is set out to change the beauty and MedSpa industry as we know it by providing a digital marketplace for the rapidly expanding $25b Medical Aesthetics industry in the U.S.

Ultimately, I’m most proud of building businesses grounded in superb customer experience, deliberate design, and innovation that fosters self-love and confidence in our clients. Building Upkeep has so far been the most rewarding venture of my life!

What do you like and dislike about the city?
There is so much to love in Los Angeles! As someone who works in health and beauty, my favorite parts of LA are its health and wellness aspects. We are a leader in new age health trends globally, and I personally enjoy taking part in that movement. I absolutely love being near the ocean, taking part in outdoor activities, hiking, meditation, and even enjoying health perks like green juice, cold brew, cryo, infrared saunas, and fresh California produce.

I’m also so proud that we are so accepting and also a leader of inclusivity and self-expression, as well as creativity! There are always aspects we can improve on, but overall I truly believe Los Angeles is one of the most well-rounded cities with more perks than almost anywhere else.
