Today we’d like to introduce you to Tessa Young.
Hi Tessa, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I’ve always loved music. In 2009, I organized my extensive music collection, downloaded Serato’s software, took lessons, and began DJing. My first gigs were at Wurstküche DTLA and The Viper Room Hollywood. Shout out to my bookers, Mike Bocek & Chelsea Schwartz for giving me the opportunities that helped launch my DJ career!
Since 2009, I have DJ’d a countless number of lounge, restaurant, wedding, social and corporate events. Currently, my specialties are corporate and premiere events. In 2016, I launched PRISM DJs, an agency that books female-identifying DJs for corporate events.
That brings me where I am today: A DJ and Booking Agent at PRISM DJs!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
This year, work/life balance became one of my biggest challenges. I recently joined a mastermind group led by Samantha Argosino from Harness Coaching, where we discussed the book, “The 15 Invaluable Laws of Growth” by John Maxwell. It was not my intention to find an answer to my work/life balance issue through this mastermind group, but reading this book really helped me to prioritize, so that I can work towards it. Thank you, Samantha!
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about you and your company Prism DJs?
I wear a couple of different hats. First, I am a DJ for corporate and premiere events. I am also the Founder & CEO of PRISM DJs (www.prismdjs.com), an agency that books talented women DJs for corporate events. My mission is to empower women in the DJ industry by sharing valuable resources to help them succeed.
What sets PRISM DJs apart is our dual focus: We deliver top-tier DJ entertainment to our clients while actively working to narrow the gender gap in the DJ industry.
I am most proud that through PRISM DJs, my company has provided gig opportunities to over 30 women DJs in the Los Angeles area and inspired many female DJs to turn their passion into a full-fledged career.
