Today we’d like to introduce you to Tatiana Barhar. They and their team shared their story with us below:
In 1999, Tatiana Barhar founded VERDEGO DESIGN, a studio based in Venice Beach that merged fashion design and architecture. By seeking out lifestyle brands. VERDEGO became one of the first companies to bring the lifestyle of California beach culture into the retail environment throughout the world. We worked with Quiksilver, Burton Snowboards, Vans, and Roxy for many years, designing hundreds of projects that were always unique and localized. We take a similar approach to residential projects by telling stories with the spaces we design and making sure we personalize each home to the Homeowner. I am very inspired when I am traveling, and I have always wanted to open a store of my own. Last year, we started BODEGA online, and we are starting to design and sell pieces by craftspeople I meet while traveling. We are currently selling handmade wicker lanterns for indoor and exterior gardens.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Clients come to me to help them start a new home or collect for an existing home. My challenge is to help my clients understand that it’s important to buy things that last don’t buy something you are just going to throw away in five years. I don’t believe in Minimalism unless you are a collector and are paring down. I like to celebrate objects and their usefulness. And I believe in authenticity through craftsmanship rather than finding knock-offs that are disposable and won’t last. Unfortunately, many items are currently taking longer and longer to ship since COVID, and hopefully, that will change in the near future.
We’ve been impressed with Verdego Design LLC, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We create curated, comfortable, creative spaces that nurture and improve the everyday.
What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
With interest rates going down, I think the cost of construction and buying a home will make things easier for both designers and homeowners.
