Community Highlights: Meet Ta’Myra Ramsay of Good Girl Beauty Bar

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ta’Myra Ramsay.

Hi Ta’Myra, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
So, while I’m on the traditional path of currently studying for my master’s I’ve always had an interest in running my own businesses for as long as I can remember. Both of my parents emphasized having my own everything. My father owns a trucking company and I got to witness my mother own and manage a hair salon while also acquiring a range of other skills.

Growing up with a hairstylist and shop owner for a mother, I naturally grew to appreciate all things “beauty.” From as early as eight years old, she encouraged me to make profit for adding strip lashes to her clients. They’d ask her how she got hers to stay on so nicely and she’d proudly say, “girl, Ta’Myra did these, go on and have her do some for you!” I would charge $5 a setback then.

Around my sophomore year of college, I decided to take a course and got certified in makeup application. I did makeup on my college’s campus for a brief while before moving into retail. I worked at both MAC and Ulta Beauty. I then went on in 2018 to take another course, this time for lash extensions. But, I still hadn’t yet sat down and created a business model or plan. I was still developing skillset while also working and attending school full-time. Once I completed my undergraduate degree, I felt ready for the next steps in business.

In late 2019 I developed my business as a hair extension line under the former name of “Good Girl Hair”. By March 2020, I launched “Good Girl Beauty Bar” offering lash extension and makeup application services. On September 9th of 2021, I relaunched my website under one brand image as “GoodGirlBeautyBar.com” here you can book a service, shop a variety of hair extensions along with beauty products like lash strips, glue, and even eyeliner.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Definitely hasn’t been smooth. I’ve had to develop a great deal of patience and consistency with seeing my ideas come to fruition. I’ve manifested most of my progress 5-6 years in the making without succumbing to impatience due to faith and alignment. Throughout the process, I’ve received signs and confirmation of my path. These small yet significant moments have kept me going.

As for the business, I am still growing and learning. I try my best to embrace challenges as learning lessons. It takes work but conditioning myself to look forward to the “hiccups” has made for a better experience. I’ve faced issues with vendors, packaging, shipping, even my site crashing but none of that amounts to being in business for myself on my own terms. “It’s only up from here” is how I see it.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I developed the name Good Girl Beauty Bar after analyzing how hesitant people are, especially women, to declare themselves as something of good nature due to the responsibility that seems to come with such claims. It’s OK to believe, confidently, that you’re a good person. Imperfect yet good- I should trademark that.

Good Girl Beauty Bar provides luxury beauty services and products. I specialize in eyelash extensions and makeup services. Our products include hair extensions, wigs, lash strips and more.

My dedication to progress and my life’s journey is definitely what sets me apart. Good Girl Beauty Bar has been in the making for the past 26 years, I hope to one day expand services and products on a global scale.

I hope all my clients and customers feel appreciated, seen and understood in their quest for amplifying their own natural beauty. I want them to experience life and all its goodness starting with luxury beauty services and products.

Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
As I’m in the growing and development stages, I’m definitely open to collaboration and I welcome support of all types.
