Community Highlights: Meet Solo Brew & Roasters

Today we’d like to introduce you to Solo Brew & Roasters.

Hi Solo Brew & Roasters, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Living in the Bay Area, but originally from Southern California, we spent our Sundays trying the local coffee shops. We fell in love with the vibe of them all. We had dreamed of owning our own one day. It all began with us messing around with roasting and experimenting with ideas and logos. Our families still lived in Southern California and we wanted to be closer to them not knowing what the future held. We decided to make the move in January 2018 and Solo Brew & Roasters went from a dream to reality. Two years and a pandemic later, we are so thankful for the continued support and growth we continue to have.

We roast all our own beans, make all the syrups from scratch, and put nothing forth that we do not stand by or have a connection to. We wanted to be able to serve anyone and everyone regardless of their diet, so all our syrups are vegan and the majority gluten-free. In addition, we offer a good selection of milk alternatives. One of the most amazing things that this has brought us are all the beautiful people that we interact with and how much they trust to share a piece of them with us, all over what can seem like a simple cup of coffee. We are just a mobile coffee company and serve our drinks/beans at the local Farmer’s Markets and other events in the San Bernardino county.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The permit process was very bumpy, as we weren’t sure the exact requirements to start or the order in which they needed to be completed. The pandemic has been a whirlwind. We were up to six markets before and went down to one from March to May. Now we have three steady markets and could not be more grateful for the support from everyone.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
We sell specialty coffee. All our beans are single-origin, organic, and fresh-roasted by us. We make all our own syrups, so we can control sugar-content and taste. Our most popular espresso-based drinks are our Spanish latte (cinnamon, fresh nutmeg, agave, house-made vanilla syrup, espresso, and customer’s choice of milk) and our Maple Salt latte (pure maple syrup, Himalayan pink salt, espresso, and customers choice of milk). Our most popular non-coffee drinks are our Blue Dream latte (butterfly pea powder, house-made lavender syrup, splash of coconut milk, and customer’s choice of base milk) and our loose leaf teas. We are really proud of the quality we produce and the balance we are able to maintain between coffee and added flavors.

How do you think about happiness?
The customers reacting to our coffee, the stories and moments we share with our customers, and all the feedback and love we receive through all the different platforms (Square, IG, Facebook, etc.).
