Today we’d like to introduce you to Shupin Chen.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
VOOCOO was founded in 2021, inspired by my background in product design and my personal journey as a pet owner. I’ve been living with a Corgi and a cat, and over time, I realized just how much potential the pet industry has—not just as a business opportunity, but as a meaningful space where design, functionality, and emotional connection intersect.
As someone who’s always cared deeply about aesthetics and interior design, I often found it hard to find pet products that matched my minimalist and wabi-sabi-inspired taste. That frustration sparked the idea: why not create them myself?
So I dove headfirst into the world of pet product entrepreneurship. From early-stage product design, R&D, and manufacturing, to branding, marketing, and building a team—there were plenty of challenges and detours along the way. But seeing VOOCOO grow, even with a small but loyal community of customers, makes it all worth it.
Today, we sell across China, Taiwan, Thailand, Canada, and the U.S., with multiple online sales channels and a fast-growing offline presence. I mainly lead sales and operations for the U.S. market, wearing many hats every day. It’s not easy—but it’s fulfilling. And I’m excited for what’s ahead as VOOCOO continues to grow and thrive.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Definitely not a smooth road—entrepreneurship rarely is. I didn’t have any prior experience running a business, so everything was new to me. There was so much to learn, and often the only way to truly understand something was by making mistakes, asking questions, facing setbacks, and just pushing through.
I had to quickly develop the ability to adapt, to absorb information fast, and to stay resilient when things got tough. In my experience, entrepreneurship is really about constantly identifying problems, finding solutions, and improving the speed at which you solve them. It’s a never-ending cycle of learning, growing, and staying committed to your vision—even when things get hard.
As you know, we’re big fans of VOOCOO INNOVATIONS LLC. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
VOOCOO stands for Voice of Our Cute Companions—a reflection of our belief that pets deserve thoughtful, beautifully designed products that bring comfort, joy, and harmony to their lives and ours.
We offer high-quality pet essentials like pet travel bags, grooming brushes, and more—each item carefully designed to combine functionality with minimalist aesthetics. Inspired by my background in product design and my love for clean, wabi-sabi-inspired spaces, VOOCOO was born out of a desire to create pet products that not only serve a purpose but also feel right at home in a well-designed space.
What makes us different is our design-first mindset. We believe pet products should feel like part of your lifestyle—not an afterthought. Every detail, from material selection to user experience, is considered with both pets and pet parents in mind.
What I’m most proud of is building a brand that resonates with thoughtful, style-conscious pet owners who see their pets as family—and want their surroundings to reflect that connection.
At VOOCOO, we’re not just creating pet products—we’re creating a shared living experience between pets and humans, rooted in comfort, quality, and quiet beauty.
Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Growing up, I was a quiet and observant child with a strong sense of curiosity. I loved drawing, creating, and organizing—even as a kid, I found joy in shaping my surroundings to feel calm, beautiful, and intentional. I started learning art and design at a very young age, and looking back, I think those early experiences planted the seed for everything I’m doing today.
I also grew up in a business-oriented family, so I was constantly surrounded by the mindset of building something of your own. That influence shaped me deeply—I’ve always known that the traditional 9-to-5 wasn’t for me. I crave freedom, exploration, creativity, and the kind of continuous learning that comes with building something from scratch.
That’s ultimately why I chose the path of entrepreneurship. It allows me to blend my love for design, my passion for pets, and the kind of life I truly want to live—one that’s purposeful, hands-on, and full of growth.
