Today we’d like to introduce you to Sara Zolfaghari.
Hi Sara, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I was raised in a family of scientists/entrepreneurs. My late father was a pharmaceutical scientist with several patents under his name. He dedicated his life to innovation and science. I watched him growing up, creating new ideas and formulations. My mother, also an entrepreneur, started her own health spa business after a few years of teaching career in the university. So I should say that health & wellness ran in the family!
Deep inside, I always knew I wanted to start my own business and was waiting for the right time! I earned my Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in business economics and then pursued another Master’s/Ph.D. program at USC’s Pharmacy School. Fast forward, years later after finishing my degrees and working as a research scientist for multiple pharmaceutical companies, I finally received my calling; my daughter was two years old at the time and she suffered from a number of food allergies. She like any other toddlers, would get sick a lot from daycare. I as an L.A. mom with Persian/Eastern background, was super committed in using natural solutions for my family. I remember walking through the aisles of my local Whole Foods Market, looking for natural remedies for my kid. The problem was that, even though there were tons of products on the shelves, none were really appealing to a toddler!
Naturally, I felt I had to fill in the gap and start mixing up my own formulas! Chamomile extract and organic honey quickly became my top favorite ingredients to use, because of the many benefits they offer. Parents magazine once called nature soothie honey lollipops “the chillaxer” because of the bonus ingredient “Chamomile” in them. After creating the first formula “comfort soothie”, we started formulating a variety of nature soothie® products for different functions, including Immune Support, Tummy Support, Calm & Relax and Throat Comfort. We’re really proud of what we’ve built so far and really hope that other kids and parents can benefit from our products too.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Starting a business is never a smooth road! Recently, I’ve been helping other entrepreneurs start their food and supplement companies and I tell them to get prepared for the most exhilarating, heart-breaking, joyful and tearful experience in their lives! The more you get invested, the more disappointed you could get. Nevertheless, if you’ve always wanted to start a business, don’t delay it, just go for it!

Nature Soothie® is a children’s health and wellness company based in Los Angeles. I founded the company in early 2016, inspired by my little daughter, to make soothing supplement products with innovative delivery formats.
We offer a variety of herbal supplements for functions including Immunity, Tummy, Throat and Relax. We are currently distributed in more than 1000 health food stores across the U.S., including fine natural chains such as Sprouts (350 stores nationwide) and Whole Foods Market (regional launch in July 2021).
