Community Highlights: Meet Ross Resnick of Roaming Hunger + RMNG

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ross Resnick.

Hi Ross, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Roaming Hunger started out as a passion project. I always wanted to start a business but I was unsure how to take that leap. Then, in 2009, street food vendors started rolling out unique food trucks, food carts and overnight, hundreds of new food brands and businesses were created. I was so inspired!

I took my life savings (~$3000) and created a website to feature and track all of these amazing entrepreneurs.

Roaming Hunger became the go-to website to find out about the growing movement and I was hooked, I knew then I had to figure out how to turn this passion into my job.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Anything but an easy path! Running a business is more like building a path and driving your car on it. You get stuck, then you have to get out, repair the path you just built, get back in the car, figure out you need to now repair the car, and repeat that over and over again.

2020 was really difficult as a company built on feeding groups of people. When people couldn’t gather, it became really tough to do the things we are best in class at. So we had to retrench, rebuild our road, and focus on the future.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Roaming Hunger is a booking marketplace to find and book and activate over 18,000 of the best food trucks, carts and caterers to feed your community. Since 2009, from backyard birthdays to large-scale festivals, we’ve helped thousands of hosts and vendors connect to provide food service, catering and branded food truck promotions. We started as a website to help people find out about food trucks in their city— we listed about 300 on Roaming Hunger in 2009– and have grown to become the go-to destination for any food trucks who are looking to fill their calendar with catering, vending and promotional opportunities.

On the brand promotions side, we have leveraged our knowledge of mobility and food trucks to bring mobile brand activations to life through RMNG. Since 2009, RMNG has been doing one thing: Creating unexpected moments in unexpected places. Though food and drink are still our bread and butter, we pride ourselves on having our boots on the ground and fingers on the pulse of everything that drives culture forward. To date, we’ve done thousands of brand activations.

What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
To never ever ever give up. No matter what.

And that running a good business starts with being a good person. Thinking about the value you create for others first is the best way to create, period.
