Today we’d like to introduce you to Rick Taub.
Hi Rick, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My business really started as a labor of love. I was hanging out at different underground art galleries/speakeasies (primarily Bedlam & The M.J. Higgins Gallery), where there would be an art opening, and they would sell booze. I was bringing in the bands I played with to entertain. I inevitably became friends with the proprietors and would help them bring in other kinds of music as well. I’ve always been excited to put people together when it benefits all concerned. Eventually, legal bars started to open in DTLA. I was playing a weekly gig at the whiskey bar Seven Grand, and eventually, I started booking other nights there as well. The nights that added music got busier and eventually led to more nights there and opportunities at other establishments such as Las Perlas & Caña Rum Bar. My primary partnership is with the hospitality company Pouring With Heart.
Lately, I’ve been branching out and have worked with The City of Los Angeles, Culver City, Major League Baseball, Netflix, and many others.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Relatively speaking, it has been. Live entertainment in Los Angeles is notoriously unstable and finicky, so considering that, I’ve been extremely lucky. Of course, Covid shutdowns were a huge obstacle. I was fortunate to have the opportunity to emerge and rebuild. I was able to do so because of the talented artists and committed venues that I work with.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about LA Music Booking?
I provide live music for events, bars, venues & municipalities. I specialize in bringing in some of the best musicians that can be heard anywhere. Every week, I book Grammy Award-winning musicians at various venues. Many of the musicians I book are musicians who perform as side men regularly with A-list artists like Beyonce, Usher, Harry Styles, Snoop Doggy Dog and etc.
I’m proud of the level of musicality and professionalism of the bands and DJs that I book and my ability to provide any genre of music. I’m a kind of bridge between the venues and the artists, and it’s my job to make sure that all involved are happy. I’m a musician myself, so I strive to make sure that the artists are treated well.
I’m excited to have the opportunity to book artists such as Krieger & The Soul Savages (featuring Robby Krieger of The Doors!) and Tom Kenny & The Hi-Seas, who are a twelve-piece vintage soul/rock band led by Tom Kenny (the voice of Sponge Bob!).
