Today we’d like to introduce you to Reco Wright Jr. They and their team shared their story with us below:
Reco Wright Jr was born in Inglewood, CA. Being the youngest of three boys, he has always been the “funny guy” of the 3. Growing up, Reco has always shown a passion for film, comedy, and improvisation and at the age of 14 Reco’s mother (Linda Wright) and father (Reco Wright Sr) believed it would be a great idea to place him into acting to pursue a career as a child actor. Immediately, he booked his first role as the boyfriend of Meagan Good in the movie The Secret Life of Girls a comedy-drama (1999), and his first nationally aired Sprite Commercial in 2001. Reco Wright Jr was never afraid of the spotlight but also had a bigger picture in mind for his future: to be able to produce and create his own projects. In 2020, we were all hit by the Covid-19 pandemic which changed billions of lives. At this time, he was working his 9 to 5 job which kept him comfortable.
But all that changed when his job had to furlough him which changed his position in life causing him to step out of his comfort zone and pursue a lifelong dream. E’ian West a longtime friend made his name for himself in the film industry and has always known about Reco’s passion and dreams to pursue the film industry. E’ian West then gave Reco his first shot which began to open up so many doors for Reco and from then on there was no looking back. Since then The Brella Streaming Network is scheduled to launch in 2023 along with many other projects. He since then was promoted to Chief Creative Officer for The Brella Streaming Network and has been connected to a large list of highly profiled celebrities and athletes. One accomplishment Reco has been proud of in 2022 was his short film Panorama he was Co-Producer on that was Academy Awards Eligible. Reco Wright Jr says, “Panorama was a huge success. To be Academy Award Eligible deserves a big pat on the back”. Reco Wright Jr is looking to work with great filmmakers and is open to discussing projects.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
There have been so many challenges coming up in this industry. The first one is that you have to be ready at all times to either network, work for free to get your name out there, or late nights at events that will have your partner not approving you coming home at 4 am. Once you get past those obstacles, then it’s contractual issues, money issues, production malfunctions/mishaps, or things that are out of your control. I always like to say that if I cannot control it then why am I going to get upset? It’s out of my hands and all I can do is try to make it better. Always take things as a learning lesson and use that to your advantage. Not everything is going to go your way. Keep a positive mindset. Practice Yoga or find a hobby that will take you away from your professional life.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
I’m very proud of the progress The Brella Streaming Network has made. We have come a very long way since the first time E’Ian West (founder of The Brella Network) brought up the idea to me years ago. From that point of The Brella Network being just a conversation to forming the app downloadable on IOS and Apple, and Roku. To bring on talent and filming with the likes of Jaden and Julian Newman (Influencers), and Mariah McCovy (from TLC Smothered). Currently working with Don Benjamin (America’s Top Model) on a project. I am also co-producer for Panorama a short film alongside Spencer Paysinger of CW All-American which is currently eligible for an Academy Award in 2023. I am an Executive Producer on a documentary on former NBA Champion Eddie Curry. I’m also very proud of Montage Media Production Company which I’m also affiliated with. Montage Media Production Company has recently won 2 short film awards for a short film Shaded a short film directed by E’Ian West. This is huge for the company, and we are looking to use this momentum as we push forward. I am currently looking for a few individuals willing to build a media empire. We live in the day and age of being able to create anything without going through the traditional channels. Now is the time to look fear in the eye and conquer.
Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
Favorite Book: Rich dad poor dad. The reason, why I like this book so much and recommend to others especially African Americans to read, is because it can teach you so much regarding finances. Growing up, I wasn’t taught much about saving money or what to do with your money. When the money was in my hand, I spent it. This book has many tools we can all use to create generational wealth. Reading 1 chapter a night is a start to a new and educated future.
Recently, I’ve been tuning into the Rude Love Podcast on youtube. Host Dkay speaks on real-life situations and it’s just entertaining to listen to. Also, my very good friend Kim Burnett has released her very own podcast called, The PurpleRose Podcast on Spotify. She shares her world with chats about life, relationships, faith, and overcoming adversity. I like feel-good stories as well as supporting my friends.
