Hi Rachel and Jessica, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
We have both always loved jewelry and were early adopters of the permanent jewelry trend. While out to lunch one day we both looked at each out and said “we can do this!” and off we went. The name Parker spoke to both of us, Jessica had it on her baby names list and it is Rachel’s son’s middle name. The J comes from both the word joy and Rachel’s sons first name – Jaxon – who brings us joy on daily basis. Jaxon was born with a unique genetic disorder called 2Q37 Deletion Syndrome which contributes to his Global Developmental Delays (GBD). His condition makes him as unique as the jewelry we create for our patrons. With family as the core of our business and our “reasons why”, we maintain that thread by naming all of our chains after our loved ones.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Starting a business is never easy and we learn new things daily that make us better. One of the main challenges we have faced is deciding what our main offerings will be. With each market we get a new request for an item we don’t have. Some markets do amazing with Sterling Silver, and sometimes we only sell Gold Filled. One market, we sold out of 14k Gold entirely! With every new market or event, we better learn how to curate our inventory.
We’ve been impressed with Parker J Permanent Jewelry, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Parker J sets out to make all of their clients feel beautiful and connected with their customizable pieces. We love connecting with our customers, styling them, hearing their stories and meeting their friends and family. Private events are our favorite as we get to connect with our people the most – and if you know us, you know we are all about our people. Our friends joke that we are adopters, once you are ours, you’re ours, no questions asked.
How do you think about luck?
The only part luck has played in our business is that we discovered each other’s desire to succeed in this realm, the rest has been what we have made of it! Owning a business is no joke and we both have full lives outside of Parker J. Rachel is a mom of 2, a mindset coach, and a college professor. Jessica is a wholesale account executive who travels nearly every week. We pour every spare minute of our lives into this business as we believe in both it and ourselves whole-heartedly.
