Today we’d like to introduce you to Noodle House Music.
Hi Noodle House Music, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Noodle House Music started as a group of friends – talent artists, DJs, music lovers – from all different walks who were attending music festivals and parties across SoCal together and realized, especially as things have become more commercialized and commodified in the dance music space, that the kinds of parties we loved – the kinds that encouraged weirdness, collaboration and inclusivity – were dying out. We hoped we could fill the void and build a new community where everyone was embraced. Where everyone felt like “fam.”
We decided to throw our first official event – Happy Nood Year – to ring in 2023. It was a rousing, sold-out success and the feedback immediately poured in. People praised the diversity of the crowd and how safe they felt, how fun the various activations were – from a tooth gem station, to pole dancing to a White Lotus-inspired drag king performance – and how rocking the DJs in our collective were. And so Noodle House Music as an organization was born.
Since then we’ve thrown warehouse parties, beach parties, and two desert festivals with more on the horizon. We’re partnered with other collectives to bring our DJs and unique energy and offering to their events and festivals. We’ve grown our network of staff, performers, musicians and attendees so that we can continue to diversify our offering and the make-up of our crowds so that Noodle House events continue to be a safe and welcome spaces for all. We’re still just getting started but think we’re onto something.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
As far as the execution of the events, the road has luckily been pretty smooth. That likely comes as a result of the kismet of our group.
It’s hard to describe what makes us work because we’re really all so different. We’re just so committed to and accepting of each other as a friend group that it bleeds into how the events go. Yes, they’re silly fun (that’s the point), but what we’ve been told is that our events don’t feel like any other parties and there’s an intentionality that doesn’t go unnoticed.
I think if there’s a challenge it’s that we are so excited to bring new people into the fold but like so many we’re competing for people’s limited time. We’re employing some exciting collabs and pop-ups this summer so we think Noodle House Music is going to get some major traction this year.
As you know, we’re big fans of Noodle House Music. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Noodle House Music is queer and women-led collective made up of DJs, musicians, dancers, wellness providers and event producers throwing intimate and inclusive dance music events and festivals in Los Angeles and SoCal. You can find more about us at @noodlehousemusic on Instagram.
Our mission is to grow community in an increasingly isolated world one dance floor at a time. We don’t believe anyone’s fun should come at the expenses or exclusion of others – safety and inclusion are our top priority and we’re proud that our crowds and line-ups include people from all walks of life and hear regular positive feedback that our events have something for everyone. We also see our events as collaborative and performance-driven. We want to elevate our stable of talented DJs but we like to give others time to shine as well. Over the last two years we’ve had live musicians, drag queens and kings, queer line dancers, burlesque and pole performers and flow artists grace the Noodle House stage. Tooth gem, glitter, face-painting artists have also contributed, as well as yoga, sound bath and meditation instructors. And most of these performers and artists were attendees themselves wanting to give back to the space. We want this to feel like more than just a party, but something you want to participate in and be a part of.
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
Give people a space to run with their creativity. You never know what you might get out of it.
